Why not?
The ECU needs to know how much air is going into the engine so that it can add the proper amount of fuel. Thats what a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor is for.
The stock MAP sensor on a 5S-FE is not calibrated for seeing boost. If it sees boost (positive manifold pressure) it'll trip out and fuel cut.
Burien Toyota's solution to this is to use a MAP sensor from a MR2 Turbo and 360cc injectors from a 2JZ-GE (engine in MKIV Supra).
