What cause mileage dropping down?

Hi, All,

I have 1995 Camry V6 138K.

I started to do an Auto-Rx treatment from this Aug. Unfortunately my mileage drops down from 21 to 18MPG. This makes me very sad.

Does anyone have any idea about what cause this problem?

A tune up would bring the mileage back up a little. But age in itself will decrease mileage, it's inevitable.

What is an auto-rx treatment? Maybe you gave your car the wrong medicine.

i think auto RX is fuel injector cleaner. i saw something like that at the auto store.

the only REAL injector cleaner is when you bring it to a shop and they disconnect your fuel lines and run it on their machines

a bad exhaust etc can give you troubles right? i had a small hole in mine, when i fixed it there was a fair change in economy

my flex pipe has a leak (93 i4), i don't know how bad was it, but i was able to move the exhaust in and out of the flex pipe, it was complete disconnected inside the flex pipe, and i've notice beside louder noise from the engine, the fuel consumption is noticeably dropping around average 28mpg, and after i replaced with an aftermarket exhaust pipe with flex, the mpg is higher now, back to average 30+ mpg.

i dunno where u live, but this mite apply to you. since winter is coming and the weather is starting to get cold, ur engine will run more rich during warm-ups. you will use the heater more, which in turn, will use more gas. the hours of sunlight are also shorter. your headlights will be on more leading to decreased gas milage.

Also, they have started adding winter additives at the pump in an attempt to lower pollution. Nevermind that the shit ruins our gas milage or makes the car run like shit. Not sure if your headlights have anything to do with milage though.

Grab 3 cans of seafoam.
2 cans in the tank to clean the fuel system.

Drive the car around and let it warm up.
Pour 1/3 of the can SLOWLY in the PCV line going into the intake manifold and shut the car off QUICKLY. (If you used too much, or too fast it'll die. If you let it inhale a ton at once it'll hydrolock) Wait 5 min, crank the car and watch it BILLOW white/auqa blue smoke. Those are the deposites in the intake track and some of the exhaust track. After idling for 10-15 min drive the car around until smoke ceases to come out the tail pipe.
Repeate another 1/3 of the can.

Pour the last 1/3 of the can into your oil ATLEAST 50-100 miles before it needs to be chaning. (An entire 7500mi interval on synthetic, or 3000mi on dino is OK)

That's the best $12 you'll ever spend. Since you're already at the store, put 1/2 of a can of their trans-tune into your transmission a week before a flush.

For best results use 1/2 to 1 pint TRANS-TUNE in the transmission fluid prior to a transmission flush or fluid and filter change. Drive at least five miles shifting into all gears. If you are not able to drive the vehicle, shift into all gears for about 3 minutes with the brake or parking brake applied. This will allow TRANS-TUNE to clean transmission valves and parts in each area. When additional cleaning is necessary add 1/2 pint of TRANS-TUNE to the transmission fluid and change the transmission fluid on a regular service basis.

You can also pour the last 1/2 of the can into your power steering fluid.

drain power steering pump reservoir and fill the reservoir with 1/2 pint of TRANS-TUNE. Run engine to pump fluid through system for 15 to 30 minutes, turning the steering wheel from lock to lock every 5 minutes. This will dissolve varnish and suspend contaminants into the fluid. Stop engine and drain fluid from reservoir placing the return line in drain pan. Cap reservoir. Disable ignition. Turn engine off <and> with <the> starter and run 1 1/2 pints of TRANS-TUNE through power steering reservoir to flush system of all contamination. Then flush system with power steering fluid.

Seafoam is the only additive I ever condone. Everything else just upsets the fine balance that the oil/fluid companies spend so much R&D time&money on developing.

- Check your air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, timing.
- Spark plug wires, distributor.

That's a few things I just thought off.
