Question vibration in drive or reverse mode

hi

i have a 1994 camry LE automatic 4 cylinder. when it is in neutral there is no vibration when i change into drive or reverse and am not moving (on brake) there is abundunct vibration and the rpm goes silghtly low. when i am moving and in decent speed its okay.

i have a bad transaxle (have to change it soon because of boot cover damage) could that be the problem some how?. This thing has been confusing me

thanks a lot

could be a motor mount issue.
check out the dogbone mount thats near the throttle body, and see if there are any cracks or anything in it.
that is usually the one that starts to go first, if im not mistaken.
hopefully the other mounts wont need to be changed.

let me know if you have any questions on this.
hopefully others can add to this as well.

good luck!

Try this to test if it's a motor mount..

Put it in drive, hold the brake and torque the engine slightly. Have someone look at the mounts to see if there torn (Torque mount\dog bone mount) and check the front mount if that's still there with no problems.

Hope this helps.

hi

thanks for the suggestions guys. the dogbone mount looked new and had no visible cracks. However at the front near the engine oil dip stik, the mount had a rubber covering which was loose and had cracks on it. is that the problem then. thanks a lot guys

If the rubber covering is not tight, you might have a front motor mount that is shot. Changing a front motor mount (radiator side ) is simple. It max a 15 min job by a mechanic. Normally the front motor in a 92-96 AT camry goes first. Good luck.

Rear motor mount?, bad CV axles should only cause vibration when the car is moving, and only at certain speeds. I'm thinking more vibration in reverse is the rear motor mount and more vibration in drive is the front motor mount, but thats the opposite of what your getting. I just changed my front motor mount with one from autozone and I've got more vibration than I had before, not as bad in drive but worse it seems in reverse - pretty frustrating huh? Let us know what happened.

Good luck. I've replaced all my motor mounts and my car still shakes violently while in gear.... It vibrates the change in my ashtray and makes my glovebox and its contents vibrate

Check tranny mount to

Did the rear mount last night, its a real pain. You have to disconnect every motor mount, including tranny mount and jack the motor up right next to the rear mount to get it to come out and fit back in, seems better now..

Check your tranny mount, its right next to the drivers side tire on the automatic.

In case anyone is wondering - the way I got the rear mount top bolt loose is to spray it first remove passenger tire and get both hands on the socket and pull outward, it was not easy getting that loose.

Angry Still vibrating

Hello

my rear mount was gone too so i had that changed. The car is still vibrating slightly when in neutral or parking and much more when it is in reverse or drive till i give sufficient accelration the vibration is again less when i am above 1.3 rpm on drive, the mechanic whou changed the mount told me that the dogbone mount was okay and he is not able to figure out the cause. for now i decided to leave it alone

thanks

hmm.. i have somewhat of the same issue. i'm blaming it on my tranny.

at stop lights and what not. at certain times i feel my car shake a lot. while i'm on the brakes. i slide it to Neutral and the car gets smoother and more relaxed. I slide it back into drive and it shakes and back into N and its claim. I assume it has something to do with the tranny.
