poll: what tool did you use for the 9005 to 9006 bulb conversion

hey guys

i am about to do the 9005 headlight conversion to fit in my 9006. i read the camry FAQ and they recommend a file, sharp knife, dremel like tool. i just wanted to see what you guys used to cut the 3mm piece off the top of the bulb, and what you used to cut the inner 2 pieces out. I don't have anything really "sharp" in my apartment except a pair of dull scissors.

so i wanted y'all's (texan opinion on what you used to make this conversion. I want to walk into walmart, pick up my 2 9005 bulbs and something sharp to do the conversion. would a sharp knife work, a pocket knife, or something else?
thanks

Cool

Filing takes forever, using a grinder is messy.
I took an old tip from a soldering iron and melted it. That's the quickest way IMHO.

ummm....actually, all you need is an exacto knife...the plastic isn't that hard, and all you have to do is dig the blade in and one cut is all it takes really....just remember to wear some gloves incase your knife slips

Cool

Good word of advice, but an Exacto would blow through mail gloves.

The first R/C plane I built I had one roll off the table and land blade down ino my thigh. It's a testimant to how fucking sharp those blades are because I didn't feel it. No stinging, no nothing. it was a perfect sever. I blead like a stuck hog too I think I was a quart low before I cleaned it out and clsoed the wound with a bottle of thin CA.

i used a dremel, a little messy but you can just blow out the dust and shouldnt have any problems

9006 is low beam and 9005 is high.

I also used a soldering iron. It can leave some mess in there with the melted plastic though.

Cool

Mikey21 9005's give 15% more light and have no reflective coating in the front letting more light foreward.

But without the reflective coating in the front, to direct all the light thru the reflector what keeps the light from getting into the eyes of the on coming traffic??? Because that's one of the things that drive me nuts. Especially on 4x4's. They raise their trucks without lowering the headlight angle. Some times I feel like flipping on the high lights and playing chicken.

I put my 9005 high beams into my low beam place, i just switched it around, not the bulbs, but the whole thing, i just took it out from highbeam and screwed it into the low beam, and BAM after like 10 hours of running the light bulb exploded, 2 of them now.....i guess its too reflective? oh well it was temporrary fix for my left low beam being burned out

Cool

Mikey21 in theory. In side by side practice you'd never be able to tell the differance. Halogen lights just do not put out enough light through the front to do it. Especially the way the glass is tapered at the front of the bulb.

Now if any of you put 9006 based HID's in and I see it, I will start calling local DOT's. :\ That's lame.
