A Saturn beat my Camry today

I pulled up beside a Saturn at a stoplight today. It was a mid to late 90's model Satern SC2. The guy had been kind of hotrodding it a little bit moments before. I could tell that it was a manual shift. So, we were at the light and I thought to myself, "I am going to have a little fun with this little Saturn". By the way, I drive a 98 LE V-6 auto(stock). I figured he would get me off the line because it was a manual, but I figured I would catch up by the time I hit 30mph. But he stayed in front of me. I was pretty supprised. The next light was red so we had to slow down and he turned off to the left.

Does anyone know what is in those cars?

I'm not really sure why you're surprised.

I was supprised because I was certain that the car had a little stock 4 banger.

I just did a little research and the car comes stock with 124 hp but only weighs 2360 lbs.

Satrun 124 @ 2360 lbs = 19lbs/HP
V-6 Camry 194 @ 3150 lbs = 16lbs/HP

I feel certain that I would have caught him if we had more road. We probably only got up to about 50mph or so.

The new Saturn Ion Redline is as fast as a SRT-4, and handles just as well too

Equip your car with nitrous if you are going to race people. Seriously, you don't talk about racing people here.

Use your O/D switch next time.

I test drove it at HIN; Its FAST and handles real nice. If only it was AWD I would have thought about buying American for a sec.

Yeah, But AWD would kill any power you can get out of that S/C I4. You'd have to boost it even more. And then it would lose it's good mileage.

Nitrous is the pussy tuners way of getting power. Nitrous + Stock Camry = Dumbass idea.

Nitrous says "I'm too cheap to do any real/legit modification to my car. And this is the only way I can beat you."

What is "afm"?

When I filled up earlier in the week, I thought I would try some super unleaded, well, my car seems to perform worse on it than 87 or 89. I have since done a search and found out that several people have experienced the same problem. No more super for me.

I kind of like the nitrous idea. I think I will research that a little bit. I am a major tightwad.

Overdrive or "O/D" is the 4th gear on an automatic transmission. It allows you to get better mileage and a higher top-end speed. However removing overdrive gives you a quicker gear ratio and also for a little quicker 1/4 mile speeds.

Unless you have a built engine, nitrous in a Camry is a really stupid idea. The engine won't be able to hold it easily and regular use will kill your engine quick. Switch to forged internals before using nitrous.
