On my 6, they did have to drop the sub-frame. From what I understand you can take it out the top but it is not the safest way to do it.

Forget dropping the subframe unless you have access to a car lift.

The tranny can be removed from the top. I've done it twice on a gen 3 Camry.

You can either seperate the tranny from the engine and lift it out. Or remove the engine and tranny together.

I find it easier to remove the engine and tranny. Then seperate the 2 once its out of the car.

Removing both together would be your best bet. Otherwise you have to remove the intake and numerous other parts to pull the tranny out.

Either way, if you aren't overly experienced in working on cars, I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. FWD setups can be confusing.

I'd personally drop it out the bottom. Then you can leave the engine in. But I have access to a lift and tranny jack, so it's easier for me.

Also is the Haynes manual at Auto Zone a good manual to pick up ??? It did a very poor job covering my dub...oh..is replacing the tranny filter and fluid hard ??? And do you pour the new fluid down the tranny dipstick ???

Oh one more thing...there is a big crossmember below the tranny can that crossmember be removed ???

No.

1. Drain out old fluid. Theres a drain bolt (10mm hex) on the tranny pan.

2. Unbolt tranny pan.

3. Unbolt the filter. You'll see the filter on the bottom of the tranny after you remove the pan.

Yes.

Yes, it can be removed.

But unless you have access to a lift and something to support the engine/tranny, forget it.

Cool

Never pulled a transmission, but if it were me I'd take this oportunity to pull that '94 engine and check the water/oil/ps pumps ect... while it's out of the car.

Who knows, you might find something about to give up the ghost and catch it!
