Can't press gas pedal down

I bought 2000 Toyota camry 5 years ago. It's a great car. Everything was good until recently I felt sometime it's difficulty to press gas padel down, specifically when the traffic light switched from red to green I can't press the gas padel down to start the car immediately as before. If I press really hard then the car will be over accelerated. What could be reasons for this and how should I check for this?
Many thanks in advance.
John

get you a throttle body cleaner and spray liberally inside it. Make sure you take off all the intake system and its accessories first. No biggie...

tightcamry129 is correct. The most likely cause of this is a dirty buildup inside the throttle body. When you are spraying the cleaner inside the throttle body, with the engine off, have someone hold the gas pedal to the floor. This will expose the back side of the throttle valve (butterfly) inside and you can clean the back side too. I like to use my finger for this. Spray a lot of cleaner in there and work it in with your finger. Then spray again liberally. It cleans it well without scratching anything in there. Your finger does get a bit dirty. Then button it all up and restart the engine. It will be difficult to start, but it eventually will start. It will smoke a bit when first started so don't be alarmed. Just take it for a ride for about 10 mintes and everything will smooth itself out. You will also notice a smoother idle.

Carpet stuck under the padel?
Sounds stupid but it has haunted many before.
