in the morning oil has not circulated around the whole engine yet. so turn the car on and let it idle for around 15 secs. then rev to 2000rpm for 10 secs...and that should be fine...start driving the car gently. gently meaning like do 0-60mph in 15-20 seconds or basically keeping the kevs at 2500rpm. thats just to give you an idea. drive gently for around 1-2 mins and then it should be fine to rev a little higher like 3000rpm until the temp guage is normal.
Put your seatbelt on, crank the car and drive. No spirited driving until the tmep gauge begins to move, after that you're fine.
I'm sure if my '93 v6 ECU is smart enough to retard timing past 3000rpm until the fluid is comming up to temp (to discourage use at higher rpm) they didn't forget to do it in 2000.

Don't press the gas when you start the car. The car starts up at an optimal RPM, you don't need to raise it to 2000 rpm. If you don't wanna wait, just start drivin.

i think same features in the 2000, well at least in my 98 is like that lol.
once the car hit around 60km, the ECU will not shift into 3rd gears (if your car is auto) until the temp rises.

hell my 1990 does that LOL.
my Lexus ES250 (1990) owners manual says let motor idle for 10 seconds and avoid revs above 4K until temp gauge has moved beyond the second mark on the gauge.

i agree. The ECU should have the engine revving at optimal rpms. It would be best to wait until engine is at normal temp but most but who always has time do that...
