Compression test numbers

I'm about to run a compression test on my 97 LE I4 AT this weekend but I don't know what the normal or max compression numbers should be. It would be great if someone could post that info. here so I can refer to it when I perform the test. Also, which fuses need to be pulled? Can I perform the test without the air filter in place (better air flow)? Thanks.

I don't have that info.

But what your looking for is even compression across all cylinders.

From Chiltons manual:

Compare the highest readings from each cylinder to that of the others. The indicated compression pressures are considered within specifications if the lowest reading cylinder is within 75 percent of the pressure recorded for the highest reading cylinder. For example, if your highest reading cylinder pressure was 150 psi (1034 kPa), then 75 percent of that would be 113 psi (779 kPa). So the lowest reading cylinder should be no less than 113 psi (779 kPa).

EFI fuse.

Rig the throttle body open. I usually use a screwdriver and wedge it up against something.

Finally had time to perform a compression test on my 97 le with 51k miles. The numbers were 205-200-200-205 and I forgot to do a wet test after that to see if the numbers go up dramatically, but I'll just do it again at 60k when I replace the platinum plugs. Does anyone know if these numbers are good? What was the stock (factory) compression numbers? BTW, my valve seals are leaking oil so would that have any affect on my compression?

Another thing, I only pulled the EFI (15A) fuse but when I was cranking, I smelled a lot of gasoline vapors. Was there another fuse I needed to pull to disable the fuel pump?

Those numbers are really good. Your engine definitely doesn't have any problems with compression.

Only if its leaking a lot of oil into the cylinders. In which case you'd have more problems to worry about then just compression.

Worn/leaky valve seals are a common problem on Camrys. It doesn't affect the engine, except for a puff of smoke on cold start ups.

Hmm... Pulling the EFI fuse should disable the ignition and injectors.
