I have a clunking noise coming from the front wheel wells when I turn the wheel and drive, or just turn the wheel. It sounds like the spring is popping or doing something to make this noise. I installed them about 4 days ago.
Did anyone esle experience this, or may know what the problem might be.
Hey I have that exact same problem!!! When they were first installed, I had no noise at all... Then the noises from the front just like you have progressed gradually getting louder day by day. I also started noticing knocking noise every little bump I hit in the rear too that seems to be gradually gettign louder and louder.... To describe it, it sounds like the sway bar wasnt installed but i checked everything and its all in place and my settings are all the way at soft. So I dont know and I'll probably have to email frank to see whats up...

i am pretty sure the linkage is what is making the noise. if you have the nuts and bolts are tight then check your linkage.
Does your spring looked scuffed? Your tire could be rubbing it. Turn your wheel and put your hand back there. You may need spacers. I needed them on my Jetta after I put coilovers on it

I just bolted mine up yesterday, but I have not driven it. I had clearance between my tire and the coilovers, more than previous by a tiny bit.
Did you tighten the hell out of the lower spindle mounts? the collars I mean?
About the knocking at the back, I forgot to mention that, but I also was having that. It sounds as if the top bolts weren't put on and were sliding around in that top rear mounting compartment.
So now I know I am not alone in thios noise problem. It is me and Velocity.
I can't put up with this noise much longer, it is driving me nuckig futs.
We have to figure this out.
Velocity, what do you propose we do about this.....
If you fix the problem, keep me updated.
I will be going into a shop on monday to see if there is anything they could figure out.
It is slotted for a camber bolt kit on the top hole of the spindle mount. The top also has little allen key bolts that let you adjust camber a little as well.
For full camber adjustment, i.e. front wheels cranked right in at the top, you can adjust the top spindle bolt and cut into the top metal if the strut mount a little on the inside edge to make room for the adjustability of the hex bolts.
If I take some pics, I will show you.
This should give you up to 6-8 degrees camber or more. Way more than anyone ever needs
kinda unrelated
but i have dropzones on my gen3
and when i turn it hear the similar "clunking" noises when i turn too....it sounds like if the coils are trying to uncoil or something

My Friend I think there is a rubber underneathe the springs you have to check that the spring is proberly set on the rubber and be sure that the rubber is not ware.
I looked over this again when I did my alignment last night.
Do you have any of the strut below the spindle mount?
- You have about an inch of clearance before it touches the halfshaft. lots of room there so I don't think you will get any noise there.
Did you torque the lower collar against the spindle mount and the upper collar against the spindle mount at the same time.
If these are not cranked tight (as tight as possible) then everytime you turn you may loosen the collars and cause the spindle mount to be able to move relatively freely.
Same with the spring collars. You don't want them to move at all.
The top nut may be loose as well and cause movement between the spring perch and the strut mount (the angled wedge of steel).
and right now i have groud control coilovers with stock struts and ive had the same noise problem with both.... mechanic said it might be the ocelator bearing ( the bearing that sits on top of the strut to allow the wheels to turn) i have on backorder right now b&g adjustable coilovers.... (because i figured installing a brand new strut and coil assembly would fix the problem) but i guess it might not..
do the d2 coils have a bearing in the assembly for the wheels to turn or is it seperate from the strut assembly? the other thing too is what are the miles on your guy's cars ? they say to replace the ocelator bearings every 100,000 miles.(front 2 struts areas are the only ones i think that have them).
so maybe look into those bearings getting replaced and see if that helps...
if thats the case get back to all of us !
