Alloy Wheels

I have a 93 camry that has those silver alloy wheels. I'm looking to paint/clean them and was wondering what they are made of. Or if i can even do this with these wheels.

I'm gonna try to get a pic to show you which wheels i'm talking about...

Thanks in advance.

you have alloy wheels...

and you want to paint them? or clean them? well painting is called powder coating i think. cleaning? just get a damp cloth or use some kind of wheel degreaser cleaner spray bottle. lol

and you are wondering what your wheels are made of? alloy? isn't it kind of obvious?

try and do a search for powder coating alloy wheels in google.

i could be wrong, so somebody correct me if im wrong

from what i can figure from my Metals Technology subject in uni
there are two different mixes that wheels are made from:
Aluminium and Iron (thus the name Alloys)
or Magnesium and Iron (thus the name Mags)

Ok, lets not haze the kid too much.

Here's a thread on how to clean them:
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...&postid=443450

You'll have to get them powder coated by a perfessional shop. Unless you want to just do some cheap spray paint. But that won't hold up well. It will give as soom as dirt starts to hit it.

That is how i understood what alloy is. Now i didn't know what the mix was made of so that is why i asked. If it's alluminum and iron thats all i needed to know. I guess for some i need to clarify that a little more.

Thanks for the link SmokingTiresV6. I'll check that out.

The reason why i'm asking if i can paint them is because i saw someone else do it to some alloy/mag whatever i don't know what they were made of. It came out very nice. The person use primer/paint/enamel/clear (not sure if it was enamel then clear or vise versa... i have the link somehwere). So i am wondering if i can do the same to the stock alloys.

If powder coating them is the only solution please let me know. thanks.

You can paint them if you want, but powder coating would hold up a lot better.

Clear goes on last.

Powder coating would be the best solution.

Or you can try doing it yourself with a kit, but you need a oven to bake on the finish.

Don't use your moms oven.
