UK porting and polishing

I know I have an MR2 but it has a Camry 1mz-fe engine in it! I would appreciate some help. I am thinking of getting it ported and polished, has anybody done this and if so what kind of power gains can be achieved from it?

Kind regards

Phil.

Cool

I don't know of anyone that's done it on any of the MZ blocks, but go for it. So long as the machine shop doesn't suck you'll get some gains from it.

mrv6 PLEASE hang aroudn this board. its great to see someone doign the mr2 v6 swap come over to TN. im sure you are normally on mr2oc.com . thats an excellent site with great info. (especially for the 5sfe camry guys that want to turbo)
the guys that did 1mz swaps in their mr2s really know their shit. ive gone through the v6 swap thread a few times. its a pitty they try to stick to the mr2 forums even though they have a camry motor now...

i'll agree that nobody has ever port&polished a 1mz. except for tony the tiger. he did a full engine build with his t88 turbo.

any p&p job is going to get you gains in power. the amount of gain is really dependant on whats done, and if you are going FI or NA.

are you planning on adding a trd s/c to your deuce?
a few of those v6 swapped guys have them... its awesome seeing the power they put down, and the times that can be accomplished with an mr2 + s/c'd 1mz....

Thanks guys, yup will hang around TN. I've picked up alot of useful info (sorry if I'm asking the same old questions over again).

Looks like I will go ahead with the porting and polishing, just have to find a head gasket set. You don't even want to know how much they are over here!! So if any one knows where I can get a set.

Def gonna s/c her when funds will allow, bank manager is not too friendly @ the moment.

I'm not running without a "cough, cough" cat on, I have custom made 1 3/4 inch manifolds and a 3 inch straight through exhaust system. The guy who made my manifolds told me that the standard camry manifolds are mega restrictive. So there's power to be gained from there.

Will let you know when I get her ported and polished.

Phil.

the manifolds are kinda restrictive. however, its mainly the stock Y-pipe that is the most restrictive... buuuut on an mr2 you prolly need a full custom exhaust anyways.

wow 3 inch for NA... thats nuts. no backpressure at all there... not good now, but with the s/c it will be perfect.

i'd look into a high flow cat by random technology or magnaflow.

you need a standard head gasket set or you want performance gaskets?
for standard gaskets i would suggest going to any autoparts store. if you are looking for a metal gasket set, there arent any out right now for 1mz. we are trying to get a bunch custom made for us at SGP, but i dont see that happening until the spring.

The car gets tested once a year, so I will have to put a cat in the system. Apart from that I don't run with a cat in the system. Depending when I get the p+p done I might be interested in the metal head gaskets.

Had a price for the p&p. With the head set it's roughly half the price of a supercharger.. So in terms of power gains, I think I would be better of saving the extra and going for the s/c!!

i'd make that decision based on the age of your motor...

Cool

UK_MRV6 P&P with new head gaskets, then put the supercharger on it.

3" pipe is pointless on a 3L engine. Keep it to 2.5" until you get enough forced inductino to put 400hp on the ground.

Thanks guys, you've been a great help. It would be pointless in splitting the engine, it's only got 10,000mls on. Gonna put the money towards a s/c. Made a mistake on the bore of the exhaust it's 2.5 inches straight through and not 3

Use throttle body cleaner to clean them. Use a fine 3M Scotch pad to to help. You can use a grinder to remove any sharp edge but DON'T touch the area where the butterfly seals.
