Angry Crankshaft pully bolt '99 V6

What the heck!? I spent all afternoon with the neighborhood dudes trying to manhandle the darn bolt out. Is there any trick? Is it reverse threaded on the '99 V6?

the trick is to get a really strong socket wrench. not something cheap that will break. THEN attach that to a huge pipe or something to use as a gigantic breaker bar. you will need to wedge something into the flywheel/flexplate to steady the crankshaft.

thats it bro. its not reverse threaded or anything, it is just on there really good.

changing the timing belt?

Yep the timing belt. We used a heavy duty ratchet with the longest pipe we could fit under the car with it on jack stands. The pipe was about 3 feet long or better. We were torquing the engine pretty good with that combination and I was worried we would break something. I wanted to make sure that the darn thing was not reverse threaded and we were tightening it even more. I used a box end wrench on one of the torque converter bolts pinned against the case and that held really well. Still no luck. I guess we will put even more muscle behind it tomorrow and hope fully it won't be towed to the dealer because we snapped something or from rounding off the crankshaft bolt. It is bit scary putting that much torque behind that bolt.

The crankshaft bolt isn't extreamly tight, they just freeze in the damned crankshaft b/c of the G-forces and heating cycles.

1) Lifetime warrenty on tools!!!
2) Must be useing a 1/2 drive socket
3) 1/2 metal pipe for more leverage.

Jack the car up.Wedge a screwdriver into the teeth of the flywheel so the engine doesn't turn over. Then you need to pimp slap the bolt to get it out!

I'm having to take mine off because of some wierd timing belt thing. Somehow the plastic TDC marks sacrificed themselves into the timing belt and it chewed it to hell. That is a real quick way to stop an engine @ idle!!!
If the 1mz ahs the same plastic marks (It'll look like metal, but it aint!) Make sure it's not going to jump into the timing belt. It'll jam the belt and then you gotta pull the damned belt out to get too the mess it makes!

What are the chances that I will snap the torque converter bolt that I am hanging on to? Is there a better way? I can't seem to get in the flywheel with a screwdriver. I am afraid that with the forces we are placing on the bolt that we will damage the flywheel.

Cool

Look bro lemmie teach you the easy way to get it off.

Take your wrench & pipe and put it on the pully's bolt. Wedge it on the ground so it stands by itself. The engine turns the pully clockwise, so have your wratchet set to spin counterclockwise (loosen) Disable ignition & crank the engine for a second.

The starter will spin the motor and break the bolt free in a split second. Instead of thanking me, help me figure out how to get the damned pully off now! That thing's frozen on baaaaaaad. I can't get it with a 2ft long screwdriver. Guess it's prybar time...

take the efi fuse 15A out to disable ignition.....

dont even think about a prybar on your pulley!!! its not even good to try a screwdriver! get a puller from the autoparts store. harmonic balancer pulley puller. it screws into the holes and pulls right off... trust me. you dont want your pulley bent!

I went ahead and bought a 625 ft/lb torque wrench and the crankshaft bolt jumped out in fear! I used a pully puller and the pully came right off. Use the harmonic balancer type not the jaw type. Mine came off with little fuss.

This works excellent!!! I used same technique to put on my underdrive pulley.
