Q 'bout 2.25" pipe from header back

I have my pacesetter header(armor coated) installed, but now I am looking to squeeze every little bit of horsepower out of my exhaust system. Since I installed the header, there is no cat-converter anymore.

I went to my local exhaust shop and they said that if I did 2.25" pipe from the header back to my glass pack muffler that I would be losing a ton of horsepower because of the lack of backpressure.

What I want to do is have 2.25" pipe from the header back, with no resonator, and with a "Turbo Racing Muffler."

Can anyone clue me in on this?

2.25" for a NA catback is tolerable in my book. Wouldn't go anything higher however.

well, the effect of a lack of backpressure depends on the engine that's in question...

but it should be all right tho....it's usually muscle cars and higher hp cars where backpressure is essential

It's a 3SFE. I wouldn't think it would be a huge problem, but I am not sure; thats why I asked.

The cat converter is right below the exhaust manifold. It comes off with the manifold when you install a header.

Is a resonator really necessary?

i know where the stock cat is, what i'm saying is why dont you get one while your at it?

for now just get the exhaust done to your muffler, if you find it too loud then get a resonator...personally i'd get hiflow cat and resonator.

Cheers

Get a Cat dude, not worth it to drive around with that loud ass high pitch noise. Attracts cops! Plus you'll misfire everytime you turn on the car and while driving. Too much pressure. I used to run striaght pipe as well with my bosal brospeed headers on my 94 5sfe. Was not worth it at all, I came close to getting my shit towed by a cop.

Misfire? You mean the-farty-sound, right? Because exhaust won't cause a 'misfire.'

The misfire starts when you turn on the car. You should hear a loud pop everytime you start it up.

Due to the rapid displacement of atmosphere by exhaust gases.

Caused by not having the cat on there. I really don't think its gonna make a power difference, only sound.

Good Luck with it, let me know your results.
