Well I was installing my TRD lowering springs and had the rear seat pulled out. So I thought what a perfect time to see if I could do something to help with the exhaust noise from my muffler. So I left the seat out for a day and picked up a couple hundred dollars worth of Dyna Mat. I worked on it for about 4 hours doing the rear deck, the rear posts, inner fender wells, under the rear seats, and the entire floor of the trunk including under the spare tire. My fingers were sore for days and under my finger nails were bleeding from pushing down all that matting.
GUESS WHAT??? Can't even tell I did anything @#&%*#(@!)$^%. What a waste of time. I believe Dyna Mat is designed for higher frequency vibrations and don't really affect low toned exhaust noise. So FYI don't waste your time and money trying to kill some exhaust noise with Dyna Mat, Fat Mat or any Mat.
Oh well, at least I'm ready incase I ever want a sub in the trunk.
Maybe I should get a sub and amp so my time and money wasn't wasted.

Man i bet that smelled like straight ASS for a few hours after you installed it, lol. My buddy dynamatted his truck and we couldnt drive it for a day due to the lingering smell from the stuff.

Did you do it during the summer? Cause I actually had to warm the mats to make them pliable because it was cold. So no smell for me.

Very true. You MUST install that stuff everywhere in the cabin, including your firewall. Because what your hearing is sound from the cabin resonance. Might wanna do your roof as well!...if you can be bothered. Or...how about a quieter exhaust.

MadDawg,
Are you guessing, or are you sure because you've done this before. I matted to about 4' in front of the muffler. To the back seat floor in front of the seat. I'm not going to invest another few hundred dollars and hours of labor on a hunch. But I would do it if you've done this and it eliminated the noise.

Nothing. It's not a muffler designed for the sound or the look. It's design is from a performance stand point. When I'm at idle you can barely hear it. From idle to 2,200 RPM it's sound nice and deep. From 2,800 RPM to 6,000 RPM it sounds bad ass. BUT from around 2,200 to 2,800 RPM with a partial throttle it can get pretty annoying. The frequency of the tone reverberates thru the car pretty badly. If you're off the throttle or on it, it doesn't do it. Only at those RPM with a partial throttle. I like the performance gains from the muffler and I'm not getting rid of it. Instead I'm going to try to work on the noise.
I'm considering adding another resonator ( I see the factory already has one installed after the cat ). Or I came up with the idea of wrapping the pipe with that exhaust pipe wrap I see used on Turbo installs. Any body have a better plan please feel free to give input.
Mike

The only way your gonna rid the incabin noise a bit without touchn the muffler itself is to mat the entire thing, doors...firewall...floor...roof everything. Make sure your weather seals are in proper condition. Also you can try and make a seal around the back of the back seat, so boot noise doesnt get thru. Still tho, you wont rid it all unless you get sound proof glass!
How loud is your exhaust anyways! Ive got an 88 V6 and it's a little like what you described, but it's not to the point of annoyance!

It's not how loud it is. It's the tone and frequency that gets me. You know like when someone scratches the chaulk board it's not loud but it makes your skin go ^&#(#@_%^&.
CamNub,
Here's a pic for U. The addition of this muffler increased my off idle throttle resonse and my midrange torque pulls like a jet on take off. The muffler made noticeable improvements so it's earned it's place on my car. It ain't coming off for no reason. I can deal with the noise if I have to.

Have you tried installing ensolite foam or the stuff that goes underneath the hardwood floors. When I installed this over my raammat60(way cheaper than dynamat xtreme) It made a signifigant improvement in the noise level.

Yeh,
I'm considering spraying the underside of the car with that spray on acousitc deadener.
