Unhappy ES300 no reverse when warm

ok guys heres the scoop. i just bought a 97 ES300 in awesome condition. when i test drove, it rode very well. when i got it home to park, i noticed that the trans slips in reverse.i shift to R and have to rev it to 1800 RPM to get it rolling. i didnt know to test the reverse during the test drive

when its cold ie: just turned on. it feels like any car would. but once warm if i shift to R it doesnt bump and the idle doesnt budge either. other than that i love it and i look forward to being a part of this forum.

i just migrated from Honda-Tech so im no newb to car forums. i tried the search and all i got was questions on reverse lights and indiglo gauges and such. please help.

Cool

Hahahaha gauges...

Start off checking the fluid level. If it's low go a head and drain the A/T fluid from the pan and fill it back.
Be sure to join ClubLexus.com also.

Had the same problem with the A540 tranny in my ES250. The car ran fine in D,2,1 but Reverse quit working for all intents and purposes. Checked the fluid, it was burnt. I drove the car for anonther 10K before replacing the tranny. Bad thing is the tranny I replaced it with, had something break in the differential and locked the front wheels up solid.
