Quick ? about MPG

Just did an oil this weekend follwoed by some Sea Foam. I noticed that the car is running smoother and quiter. Good Stuff.

On a full tank of gas I've used half and am around 140 miles. This equates to roughly 17.5 MPG mixed between street and highway.

So far how is it fairing? Is it average? Above average? Discuss por favor.

I'd say wait till you use the full tank , then calculate it after filling it up again. I'm averaging 17.5 mpg w/my 4.0 v6. Do you have a 4cyl or v6?

He has a '93 5SFE.

I get around 25mpg with my 3SFE and I push it pretty hard.

Do what trdcamry has said and filll your tank then start the trip odometer and then on your next fill up divide the # on the trip odometer by the gallon amount on the fuel pump.

Have you done a tune-up recently? I would expect a 93 5sfe to get at least 22mpg.

Even I get better then 17.5 in my V6 .... I am thinking I should get better then 20 mpg easy. Your consumption sucks, really.

i get close to 27 mpg most of the time in my 5SFE... so i would say right now yours is below average still.
i would say calculate an average of at least 2 tanks of gas to get a better estimate of how your consumption is going.

i used to get average 30 mpg, now the weather is colder, only get around 29.5 mpg, 93 5sfe 5 speed, i normally get 300 miles out when the fuel indicator drops from Full to half.

Since I'm at the half way mark I'll wait until 2 more refills and get the average of the three.

I also drive it really, REALLY hard. For the next refill I'll go at it normal instead of the way I normally do it. Ok, thanks guys. That's what I needed. I'll update this thread in a week or two with my results.

i'm a little stupid when it comes to 5sfe's but where do we pour it into excatly? Do we take off our air filter completely and pour it directly into a TB

"With engine warm, slowly pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint through carburetor or throttle body throat. (If vehicle is port injected slowly pour SEA FOAM through direct manifold vacuum line that will feed all cylinders, possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line.) This will pull SEA FOAM down on top of the pistons and to the back of the intake valves to dissolve carbon. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes."

^ Unplug the hose to the brake booster and pour it in through the hose.

The brake booster is that big round drum looking thing on the right side of the engine bay.

Brake master cylinder and fluid reservoir attaches to the front of it.
