Here is my current setup: pacesetter header, 1.75" pipe to the stock resonator, resonator, 1.75" pipe half way to my muffler, 2.25" pipe the rest of the way to my muffler, straight through N1 style muffler.
I think that the pipe should be a uniform 2.25" pipe. I called the only local muffler shop that I trust and the guy said he couldn't work all the way up to the header because it is state law that I have a cat converter, which I don't because it, and the manifold, were replaced with the pacesetter exhaust header.
This is what I would like to have done: 2.25" from header back to resonator, 2.25" resonator, 2.25" pipe back to muffler, Ractive M-252 Oval muffler
I told the guy at the muffler shop that this is what I wanted done, and he said that I would be loosing quite a bit of backpressure and almost all of my low-end.
Any input would be much appreciated.
EDIT: MY STATE DOES NOT REQUIRE EMISSIONS TESTS
EDIT 2: I AM TRYING TO ACHIEVE A DEEP, BUT NOT LOUD OR FARTY, TONE AND TO KEEP THE PIPE DIAMETER UNIFORM
he right but you would gain this up in the top end and mid range ... just add a 2.25" hi-flow cat to get a bit of back pressure ... You could also run a louvered exhaust instead of perfolated one...

Can you quickly explain the terms louvered and perfolated? Thanks bro!

You can get a 2.25" in/out performance cat from Random Technology. I got a 3" in/out from them for my TE72 Corolla.

louvered means if you look into the muffler it has these little bumps with holes facing the exit of the muffler... These are there to create back pressure. Old school design
perfolated means if you look into the muffler it has no bumps just a bunch of holes in there. Thats perfolated these are for more high flow and turbo setups... More modern design as well because they match the exhaust piping with the exhaust flow of the motor.

Thank you!
So do you think all of my bottom end will be gone? Or was the guy exaggerating?
quick question about exhausts when we are on this topic. i had a big gash in my exhaust pipe from the resonator to the muffler, and i had to get it replaced. a buddy of mine told me that i should get the resonator removed because it will add some hps. is this true?
i went and got an aftermarket muffler and went with a 2.5 pipe from the cat all the way back. without the resonator did it add hps? because i am thinking about throwing back on the resonator, since it is really loud now. it's deep and doesn't sound like a crappy exhaust system, but just loud.

its add horsepower but its mostly higher rpm spectrum... As for your resonator, the resonator is just like having another muffler. so just make sure the resonator is also 2.5" in and out ... Then it shouldnt restrict flow ...
