The bolts/nuts on the flange for the converter look pretty rusty but I think they are also pretty loose, I couldnt seem to get a small enough socket on the bolts? Smallest I tried was 13MM, what size are those flange bolts on the converter? Are they metric?
The engine exaust manifold flange bolts ARE 13mm and those will be easy to get off, but the converter flange bolts look weird. anyone out there able to tell me what size or what typ of socket they are?
If all else fails I'll cut off the y pipe(with my trusty reciprocating saw) about 6" behind the converter and just unbolt the manifold flanges and drop it down with the converter attached and try working the bolts on the front flange to get it off the Y pipe. dealer price for a new Y pipe was 320.00, not bad considering the shop wanted 150 just to patch up the leaking pipe but it's rusted enough that it has to go. Thanks for any tips..

if you are just going to get the nut and bolt off the cat, i have a small advice, if you are willing to get new bolts and nuts for the cat converter since it is rusted very bad, you can use a drill and use the smallest drill bit to drill through the nut, and then use a bigger drill bit and drill it through, then use the biggest drill bit, and just drill off the whole nut, the bolt and nut will be seperated.
took me about 5 minutes to drill it off.
i've tried to cut bolt off with saw, but no luck, i've even tried to use the 500F fire torch to burn it for 45 minutes, and nothing happen, and seems like drilling is the best for me
