My 1993 Camry LE I4 bottomed out on Friday when I was going over some speed bumps at school. I go over them everyday and this has never happened, I did have 3 other people in the car. I was wondering if this means my shocks are going bad. If the shocks are bad, what is a good moderately priced set to buy.

I think you just went over it a bit fast and with the weight. My struts are new and last night I bottomed out on a speed bump with people in the back of my '95. Check out if you have odd sounds and read...

Mine does. Plus going fast over a bump doesn't help. Usually I dont cart people around in my car. That's the 'rollas job!

that and you don't realize how low the camry actually sits...the actual frame sits a lot lower than the parts of the body that you can actually see...
Yeah it is low. I'm pretty thin and I have to jack up the car a bit to fit under and drain my oil...plus if you got the black trim on the bottom, it also hides the lowness of the car.

so is this normal for a camry under 250 lbs of weight in the back and 250 in the front, or do you think I should get some new shocks (I have no idea what are good and what are bad, so I might need some sugguestions).
Thanks,
John

its probably normal, if you had more load on the car then usual youd probably bottom out if you were going the same speed as you usually do with less ppl.

I dont believe there is a camry out there that doesnt bottom out over something like that... i always freak out when i go off a street into a driveway sorta fast.
Unless your car handles poorly, you probably don't need new struts. Compression of the springs (and their rate) is what's responsible for bottoming out, not the struts...
Oh yeah... try lowering your Camry 2" or so and then go over those same speed bumps - its a real challenge. My camry has frame and crossmember parts that are only 3-4" off the ground.
