Excuse me if this topic has already been discussed before, but I can't really get the hang of the new search thing. I was wondering about the legality of the 9005 conversion, especially the one to 9005 silverstars. I just put SS's in my high beams, and they are bright as sh*t. Don't know if the cops, or even the inspectors, would have a problem with that.
BTW I got a '95 Camry LE, not that that's really important in this matter.

I see no reason for a problem, and I justify that by saying look at all the upmarket machines with HIDs, Xenons, and such- way brighter than a set of modded 9005s if you ask me, but that's not to say modded 9005s arent bright!
If you're worried about inspection just keep the 9006's around and throw them back in when it's time... to do the 9006 to 9005 mod you're only modding the new 9005 bulbs themselves so the 06s plug right back in. That'll be my plan when I get the time and $$ to do this mod.

yeah i haven't had problems w/ my modded 9005 silverstars. no one has flashed me bec it was too bright or anything. and not sure how strict your inspections are in NC, but in TX, they care more about smog then the lights. the guy i always go to just turns on the light to see if they work

There isn't a legal issue. 9005's are DOT approved for "headlamps".
Aftermarket HID's are not. Trust me, noone will confuse you for having HID's.

I've got silverstars (which are DOT legal) and non amber corners. The dude over was right, in TX is smog not lighting, but if its a b!tch to pass where you are at..then just do what it takes to pass it!
hey jhbhatia, houston TX, huh? i grew up in houston (a suburb-sugarland
now i'm in dallas. well, not now. i'm in phily...but will be back in dallas soon. good to see other houstonians here
Alright, thanks. I was worried more about if I was in a wreck at night they would try to blame it on the "modded" headlights. Right now I'm running silverstars in the high beams and the regular halogen 9005's in the low beams. Once I can dig up $30 I'll go for all silverstars.
I can see now
