Apexi SAFC...will it work?

Will an Apexi SAFC Piggyback module work with a 88 V6 Auto ECU?
How hard is it to install?

The hard part is to get someone to tune it on a dyno.
Its just a fancy gauge until you dyno tune it and after you add mods you should tune it again.

Cool

Yes. It's not too tricky to install. Just a couple of spliced wires and a cut one.
Buy a wideband o2 and forget the dyno tuning.

Well mine does that!! And it also shows FULL rich when under any amount of acceleration! The only time it shows anything different is when im off the throttle. And sometimes itll bounce back and forth btw 'stoich' and rich. Dodgy!

What's a good AFR that is readily available?

Neither. Its just a gauge.

Wide (uego) or narrow band refers to the O2 sensor itself.

Howard gained 11whp on his V6 2nd gen Camry from an SAFC. Only mods he had was an intake and exhaust also.

OK, I think I'm beginning to understand.

The Apexi S-AFC is a piggyback controller that modifies the A/F mixture curve to the settings you input. The AEM wideband UEGO kit is a A/F ratio meter with a Bosch O2 sensor that you use to dial in your setup on the Apexi S-AFC.

Is that close to correct??? Or do I need to be schooled some more?

So basically the above setup would be the shit, full adjustability on the fly. Yes???

Would the above setup work on a 2004 SE V6 w/ VVT-i ???

Thanks,
Mike

PS - I'm slow but when I get it, I'll have it for life.

That's right except that you don't need to adjust on the fly. You adjust for maximum power with your modifications. Then you adjust again once you add more to the car. You can use the wideband to tune the SAFC but you really should have it dyno tuned to get the best results. Then you don't even need the A/F meter unless you just NEED to keep your eye on that for some reason(like if your car is turbo and you are scared of blowing something)

difference between wideband and regular/narrow band afr gauges...

wide band range is 7afr to 18afr...
narrow band is lean and rich ...

A wide band can read 0.1volts increments ... While narrow band can read 0volts and 5 volts, nothing else ... nothing in the middle...

Thanks Wraith...that exactly what i needed. The explains why under acceleration the meter reads FULL rich, and when i let off the accelerator it comes back to 'STOICH' and sortoff dances around there a bit between the LED's. Sometimes flicking btw STOICH and FULL RICH. Doesn't really tell me that much!. I think ill invest in a AEM UEGO, makes much more sense to have something that actually does something than just dance around and look cool!!

is the s-afc required to change the a/f ratio? or can the wideband gauge change it by itself?

I think the AEM UEGO AFR Guage has a controller which plugs into it to control the AFR. Im not sure exactly what it is, but if you google it, you'll find it.
