fan will not turn off

I have 90 camry 4cl, auto trans,. dual cooling fans, I shut off engine and both fans run even after engine has cooled. Started car again and same problem remains. Think it's the relay but I'm not sure where the relay is located. Any help?

The fans remain on until the engine is cool.

If I understand correctly, the fans stay on for prolonged periods of time? Have you checked your engine temp on your dash when you turn off your car? Your engine may just be getting really really hot.

It could be a thermostat problem.

fans remain on

Changed out thermostat several weeks ago. Car was running hot until the change out. Ran great for several weeks. Fans remain on even after engine is cold to the touch.

Ive got the same problem with my AC cooling fan. My primary thermo shuts off and turns on with the engine temprature though. Could it be in the AC fan relay?

Don't know. Could be but I'm thinking it's an actual fan relay. You could be right.

Look in the fuse box in the engine bay. The fusebox is on the right side of the engine bay, behind the battery.

Theres 3 relays for the fans. A/C fan relay no. 3, A/C fan relay no. 2, and RDI (radiator) fan relay no. 1.

re: fans will not turn off

Thanks 88LE. I don't have RD1 listed but it does say "FAN NO. 1" That's it? Can it be bought at a parts store, (ie. NAPA, Advance) or does it have to be a toyota part? Thanks!

I'm not sure. It might be a Toyota only part.

Theres a way to test relays. I'll have to look at mine and see if I can figure it out.

RE: Fan runs

Thanks dude. I pulled it and the fans turned off. Don't have my multimeter with me but will have it checked tomorrow. It is a Toyota part but I wonder if it can be cross-referenced?

fans runs

Thanks again. You never know. Could be relay and thermo. Won't know until I replace the relay. Hope it's not thermo. Just change it several weeks ago.
