parts needed to replace for heater?

Ya ive been kind of had it with my 88 camry's heater where it keeps cycling from cold to hot so i finally forced my parents to fix that damn thing. im just trying to find out what i would possibly need to replace such as heater core, thermo, etc.

so far things i have done to see if heater would ACTUALLY work would b that little knob in engine compartment, next to the firewall, and pushed it towards the firewall. that didnt work. left the engine runnin for several minz that didnt work. now i ran out of ideas.

give me some inputs guys before it gets too too cold and its cold already. thanks
