Okay I now have an Unorthodox Racing crank pulley that I am looking to install. The shop told me to go to any store and buy the 2 belts. I went to Canadian Tire and they gave me the OEM belts. Is this what I want? If this is so, then why not just use the existing belts? If not, then what belt should I get (ie smaller circumference, etc)?

Thanks.

Anish, if you look at the instruction sheet, it will tell you what size belts to get. The will be smaller than your stock ones.

Doesn't say what size to get on that one sheet. Just has the model #s there. I don't know how to interpret it. Canadian Tire doesn't carry that brand of belt (Gates). They were gonna sell me OEM ones from another manufacturer.

Where can I get the GATES belts?

I never got to that stage, so you're on your own. From what I remember, the belt sizes and info are on that sheet. If you don't know how to interpret it, take it to your parts store. Otherwise, go to the unorthodox website and it has a list of belts there.

Okay I checked out the "Unorthodox" site and I now know how to interpret the model #s to tell me what I need to know.

From what I knew before, stock belt sizes are:

alternator + a/c belt = 43"
power steering = 30"

Gates belt:

alternator + a/c belt = 42.5" (or 41.5&quot
power steering = 29"

Now JRP recommends International Auto to do the install. The guy there estimated the 2 belt prices to be about $70 total!!! PLUS the install cost is $150!!!

I'm calling Speedtech where Phi had his suspension install done, to see how much their labour cost is. The guy there estimated the belts to come to about $30 total! So we'll see. If its not worth my while to install it myself (if I can get cheap enough labour rate) then I'll get Speedtech to do it. Any comment on their workmanship reliability, etc?

Thanks.

Don't think speedtech is the kind of shop you want to install the pulley. Just go to a regular mechanic. I believe changing the timin belt requires removing the pulley. Thus, they should be more used to doing such jobs. As I said, if you don't know how to interpret the belt sizes, take it to someone who does.

As I said in my previous message, "I now know how to interpret the belt sizes."

Doing the crank pulley install doesn't require the timing belt to be touched. Its just the alternator/ac and ps belts that are replaced.

I talked to Speedtech and they said that they have installed crank pulleys on cars before, just not a Camry. I sent them the directions and they said it is just as simple as any of the others. They only want $70 (as opposed to $150 from International). He didn't even force me to buy the belts from him... he gave me his price and said if I can find a better price I can buy it and give it to him too.

Sounds pretty honest. Are they good guys? Tell me what you think.
