cheap mods for a stock camry?

I own a 1992 V6 camry w/ 110,000 miles on it which is still stock except for some recent work on the engine head and mostly new parts for the cooling system (this work was done because the car severely overheated damaging the head and blowing the head gasket). I have an optima redtop battery an autopage alarm that I installed and I am finishing up my sound system. I am a highschool student and I am on a small budget but with christmas coming around I could ask for more expensive stuff.
I am wondering where to start with my car. I have full access to the auto shop at my school so I can do any mechanical work.
Thanks everyone

you should start with air intake and doing something about the exhaust system...

well first here is some info on your engine, your engine is called a 3VZ-FE its a 3 liter v6 with economy dual overhead cams

some great mods for this engine are:

-get a new better flowing y-pipe installed
-get rid of your cat, or buy a high flow
-clean your intake, this involves removing most of what you see on top of the engine, it will help a decent amount cause let me tell you the exhaust recirculation system on the 3VZ dirties the intake a huge amount!
-make your own cai, this wont add too much power but the sound is amazing! you can use a variety of thing to do this, i used some 3'' aluminum electrical pipe i found at lowes and completly removed the intake from the throttle body all the way into the fender, there are a lot of resonators and junk that can come out and just run the intake into your fender, not that hard
-kill your egr system, you will need to block this off at one or two points along the system, the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) can be easily disabled if you end up cleaning your intake cause you have to remove the plenum, there is a pipe on the back that should be copper or brass colored, all you do is detach the plenum and before you put it back on fabricate a piece of metal to go in between the pipe and the plenum that will completly block the flow of any gas
-port your acis, this will help some and its easy to do! do a search in these forums for free v6 mod and you will find detailed instructions on cleaning your intake and porting your acis

good luck and welcome to TN!!

Cool

Metal block bolted on the inlet's on the intake = blocked, or all plugged holes = blocked.

You can gain a tiny bit by cutting a hole in the bottom of the stock filter box, and/or enlarge the stock CAI pipe.

the Y -pipe is a part of your exhaust system that links both your heads to one pipe the on on the gen 3 camry is goofy as hell and doesnt flow partiularly well.

Combustion temperatures will be hotter and there will be cooler air in the intake and less exhaust buildup in it. All three of which can easily be argued to give you bits of power that are being wasted.

i own a haynes manual and im doing what i can to read about differnt parts of the car but crap the books like 2 inches thick. i put my car up on a lift today and i found the y pipe. admiral, you are right it is very akward. i was confused about how its supposed to help the air escape when the rear header exhaust joins the front header exhaust at almost the complete opposite direction. like one is flowing against the other. i can see how that could make a difference to switch it out. how much do they run and where can i get a new one?

any help with pics or more in depth info about blocking off the egr system would be great. thanks

thats done to make both header lengths equal to keep teh gases balanced or whatever, if you make a new one, just keep the same design but bend it nicer

tehre is no aftermarket stuff for a 3vz, make it all yaself.
