newbie question/intro to site

well first let me start off by saying im a newbie here i just picked up a 93 v6 camry. it has 190k miles on it..but the motor had SOME repairs at 100k and it also had a new tranny put in at 100k. this was my girlfriends parents car. they owned since 20k miles (1994). my main concern is this...are these interferance motors? they had EVERY maintenance record from day one, they even took it to the exact same shop for everything. they said it wouldnt hurt to replace the timing belt.i dont know when they are due for a change..but i know this one has over 100k on it. this is no problem to change but id like to get the small things out of the way first. just the basics things i do to every car i buy. makes me feel better i guess. this is a daily driver. i also own a 99 z28 (bolt ons, cam, stall, no2) that i race. so i wont be beating on it but for peace of mind id like to know how the motor would hold if something happend to the timing belt. i love anything to do with power so who knows what i might decide to do! sorry for the long post. seems like this place is pretty friendly. im sure i will learn a lot on the future about my car from you guys as of right now i will be the first to admit i know nothing other than the engine size right now. ive had it for about 5 hours..and hopefully by morning i will know more than i ever thought i could. thanks in advance guys. sorry again for writing a book

your camrys engine is called a 3VZ-FE (3rd revision of VZ block F means economy dual overhead cam E means efi)

it is a non-interference engine

there arent any cool parts available for this engine, no cams, no pistons, no rods nuthin but its a great engine if you decide to boost! you will have to tune tune tune but it can handle 350+ horsepower on stock internals if you do it right

thanks man...any and all advice people give me is appreciated. boost could be fun for later...as of right now id just like to lower it, tint the windows, maybe throw my old stereo system in it. one fast car is enough. i love toyotas tho, they tend to run forever. i just want mine to look nice and maybe throw a few basic mods on.

From one 93 V6 to another, I welcome you.

I'd replace the timing belt, just to be on the safe side.

93 V6, great, slightly underpowered car for its weight.
Congrats on your ride.
Invest in a tran cooler, change your oil regularly.
Nice set of wheels, lowered ride and upgraded suspension parts are a must.
It is a non interference engine, one of the reasons there are still so many around.
I am from the old school, Prevention better than Cure.
So if you are unsure, save for it and do it next time car needs to go in for something major. Get all belts changed at that point and think about that water pump. The pump is located right by the belt and replacing it requires removing the belt.

Welcome to the most active, if not best site for Camry info.
You will get more usable info using the Search button on this site then Google.
