Clear coat is deteriorating, how much to fix?

The finish on the paint on my roof and trunk lid is getting all white and flaking off. It looks awful. It's a '93 Camry V6 LE. I assume this is the clear coat going bad. Can a paint shop redo the clear coat or will the whole thing have to be sanded down and repainted? How much should I expect this to cost? Thanks.

Do you have a picture you can show us?

The paint looks dull if there's no clear coat on top, though I've never seen clear coat flaking off a car.

You'll be better off getting a repaint, it'll cost you a few hundred just to do the roof and trunk. It all depends how much time they spend on it and the quality of paint that they use.

It cost me about $200 to paint the hood, and add a urethane clear coat to the front bumper, side fenders and hood.

So, it should cost a bit more than that to add a urethane coat to the whole car.

Like he said, it needs to be wet sanded and clear coated. It happens sometime, was it painted before you got it by a shop, sometimes it will flake off. Or heat will cause it. If it needs to be painted look into painting the whole car as it most likely willnot match afterwards. even if they follow the vin number as a directory of factory paint color. Most places can't match the metallic that is added to the factory paint. My 94 pickup had same paint and four diferent shades of metallic. looke retarded until I painted the whole thing one color.

I'm pretty sure it's the original factory paint, I don't think it's been repainted. It all matches fine. It's a dark green metallic. I think the combination of the dark color and it being a California car that's seen a lot of sun has just resulted in it being baked to death. I'll try to snap a picture and post it tomorrow.

Once u get it painted wax it down w/ some carnuba. There's also a carnuba wash/wax use that after u wax it, don't use dish soap it'll just strip the wax back off again. If u have a choice of paint brand, choose Omni it goes on the same as PPG and it's not as much. I just painted my body kit to match the rest of my car and the paint only cost 25 for a qt.. But that's all i had to pay for 'cause my father is an autobody paint for about 35 yrs. Especially if u live by the ocean that will eat up the finish as well.

Same color as mine, and same weather conditions. A clear urethane coat shoulf fix it.
