14" to 15" Wheels Conversion

I've got a 93 4cyl camry and it's got four 195/70r14 wheels and I wanna upgrade them to 15 inch wheels, stock sizes are fine i think its 205/70r15 for the gen 3 v6s.

Question: what are the cheapest possible 15" wheels that would work for my car and be equivalent to the stock 15s?

Steel is fine, for now, 15" is ideal for this application so I'm thinking maybe a set of steel wheels from like a newer camry for example. I'm on a budget and I don't wanna invest in a new set of 14" tires.

Corners good on bumpy roads

yeah sure a porsche can corner good on curvy smooth mountain roads, but I've dusted EVERYONE I've came across on the less than smooth roads I grew up around. I don't wanna mess around (too much) with a winning formula so-- I'd just step it up a notch to the bigger wheel/tire combination specifically designed for this car.

skidpad for the 93 4cyl is like .71, vs. the other camry I had access to a 96 6cyl. which was like .81. The 4cyl is the only one I trust in the mountains, if I had a clone and he was driving the 96 I'd dust him in the turns.

Basically I'm on a budget and since I need to get new tires, I might as well invest in the 15s now, maybe if I get more money later and the new tire size works out I'd go get a nice set of alloy and liquidate the steels...

93 Gen 3 V6s run 205/65-R15 stock.

If you are shopping used anyways. go look around for someone selling their 16s or 17s. Usually they sell wheel and tire together. Might be affordable. Ebay it.

Skidpads are okay guidelines but its not real life. Its based on a nice flat skid pad not like real roads with constant changing surface conditions.

Also, if you think that if you drove a slower car faster then a faster car....
that is a personal thing. Was it the illusion of speed or lack there of?
Maybe you are more comfortable in your 4.

I agree with you on that. Just upping the size to 15 isn't noticeable. Go with a 16, small profile tire, VR rated. Besides, driver is 50 percent of the equation. There are few replacements for displacement...one goes pssssst, and the other...well Wraith's working on it.

re

the truth is, i've never been beat in the mountains by my old place - not in that car. It don't matter if it is a porsche, ferrari, nsx etc. they try for a while give up and let me pass and disappear in my rear view mirror. If it was a little less rugged, and they were even halfway skilled as drivers I would have no chance, no chance at all.

I've beaten probably no one on a drag race in that car, although I've tried for kicks I guess. I was beating this guy in an sl600 - until he noticed me, ha ha. I'm not gonna try to drag race this car it's got too many strikes against it, 4cyl, auto, heavy. But for some reason I do well with it on mountain roads...

I upgraded from 195/70/15 to 205/60/15 (still on steelies) on my Camry. One of the biggest reasons for upgrading is better tire selection (and sometimes prices). It also enables me to run the larger front rotors if I choose to...

15" wheel types

ok according to the manual the 4cyl uses 195/70r14 and the 6cyl uses 205/65r15, and the wheel size is 14x5.5 jj and 15x6 jj respectively. Are there any other compatible wheels besides the ones specified? these are both 5 lugs.

I don't really wanna buy plus size wheels or tires for this car beyond the stock dimensions, I think I would do better putting them on a more sporty car like a supra, like an 88 or something cause the newer ones are way expensive..

and btw my name is Hatori KatsaMOTO!!!, sike!

My MR2 came with 14's, and I put these 15's on it...looks much better (see below). Sure, I don't exactly tear up skidpads, but the improvement in looks and available tires is huge.
These will also fit on your Camry. You can typically find these at late model junkyards for about $200-250 a set. They come off of late model Avalons, and are completely hubcentric to the Camry after 92.

http://webpages.charter.net/dm1/misc/mymr2.JPG

And yes, Camrys even brand new with perfect tires / shocks / and springs only net about .7Xg (actual tested figures R&T, C&D) in the top of the line wheel and suspension option, which is 50% worse than even a 77-87 924 (base ugly) Porsche which is also RWD and will slalom six or seven miles and hour more than a Camry - not even close...come on. But then again, if you bought a Camry for handling, then I guess I am at a loss for words.
Any time you would want to try my $2200 daily driver MR2 (lowest tested skidpad .86g R&T 91') I would show you something about handing from a car I don't even consider that sticky (my 92 300ZX will eat the MR2 for breakfast on any curve).

Buddy theres no way you can outrun a SL600! I really doubt your stock I4 can even outrun the gen3 v6!

Here is a good website to see what tire sizes are suitable for your car when you plus size
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

the width of the rims really depends on the offset of the wheels so it can be even wider than 15x6

5 x 114 is the only lug pattern choice you have unless you weld the wheels onto your car!

nice tires surfun, that's a good idea btw about the junkyard thing too.

as for the porsche 924, those are indeed way low to the ground, at least the seats are to the floor. I hear the 944 can go 155mph.

If I get some ends I might just wanna get like a used m3 or something, I'd be a madman.

im not one to harass people, however, you are a special case. You drive a camry, although i have an extreme passion for camry's, it is not comparable to a porsche, nsx, or ferraris. I think you need to give yourself a reality check bro.

and you do well on the mountain roads... You need to do some research on stock camry suspension.... its not exactly the best.

I got some rims off a '93 Lexus GS300, they're 16s and I'm wondering what size tires to get for them. I think they're 7.5" wide. The stock tire size is either 215/60/16. I'd assume I don't need anything really wide as I'm not having much traction problems right now. I'd prefer the overall diameter to be close to my current diameter so it doesn't offset the speedometer as much. Considering that I drive a '95 Camry 4 Cylinder, what size(s) would you recommend?

And yeah this guy sounds like DORIFTU INITIAL D EXCEPT NOT DORIFTUING and takes his mountain "racing" too seriously.
