Camry Starts Only Sometimes

I have a 1999 Toyota Camry Le.

Recently I have noticed that when I turn the Ignition key, nothing happens, no clicking sound, after 3 or 4 tries it starts up correctly. This seems to happen only in the Mornings.

I have replaced the Battery and have had 5 days with no problems, Today it started the same routine again. 3 or 4 turns and it starts.

Any Suggestions?

Thank You in Advance
Paul

Check to see if you turn the key to ON (not start) apply brake and shifting the gear selector from P to N start the car. If that is it then it is the start interlock switch.

Check Ignition relay, swap another similar relay (same colour and connector pins) and see if that changes.

If not
It may be the switch on your steering column.

Contacts on the starter...if they don't make a good contact it will do exactly what you're saying. go and have it checked out. I hope it is something else less intrusive though.

I had the same problem with my 95 LE V6. Replaced the starter and have had no more problems. Mine would act up only when cold, after sitting overnight, or while i was at work.

Same here. I dunno if it matters, but it happened at around 64,000 miles.

Sounds like the starter. If you cant fork over the money for a new one you should try geting jsut the brushes for the starter. You should bea belto go to to any Toy dealer and order them. I know we didnt use to keep them in stock and it was something we had to order. It doesnt make sense for them to keep those on hand when they can sell the whole starter. Probably wouldn't cost you more than about 30 bucks or so. I had to do it to my 86 4X4 and just had the same prob with my 94 1MZ. Unitl you repair it your only option is to keep turning the key til it works
