Tire Pressure...

Hi all: On my 2002 Camey LE (4 cyl 2.4L) the sticker on driver side door suggests tire pressure should be 29 psi. I just got set of Michelin Hydroedge tires installed about a month ago. I checked the pressureon them and it was 34 psi on all 4. SO the installer must have set that I assume. Is this ok? Would it cause bumpy ride or low mpg? We do mostly city driving. Any insight is appreciated. -Ric

in a way, it's personal preference.....you should stick to about the pressure that the manufacturer recommends, but it also depends on the tire....stiffer tires usually require more air too to fill them out right and give you the best traction...

and since you have more air, no it won't lower your mileage....if anthing, it'll give you more mileage, but worse traction (less surface area to ride on)

hmm..

Its not giving me higher mpg for sure!
I would like to also keep it to Manufacturer's reco. psi. And thats why I wanna find out if there is any specific reason for Hydroedge or not.

Higher pressure is better for the winter so I wouldn't worry about anyway. Lower pressure will make the car ride on the sidewalls more, which gives you more traction under normal conditions but also wears the tire faster too. Less traction also means less friction which can increase your MPG as the wheels would have less resistance when spinning on the road.

I try to keep mines at 35psi. Any lower than that and my tires still seem soft.

i usually have mine set at 32-34 front and rear. anything below 32 and it feels soft and underinflated. i'm running 17" Continental Contiextreme contact tires...pretty good.

in the summer, with my potenzas, I keep them around 40.....tried different pressures, but this one seems to give me the best traction and least squealing

Cool

Car makers tell you what gives you what they want you to have. I.E. a balance between handling, economy, wear. Tire makers tell you the reccomended, and max pressure/load of the tire is.

I always say go between the recomended pressure, and what the car maker says.
My '93 ES calls for 32 all around. I never run under 35psi.
