Spring Choice & Strut Mount ?

I just got my Tokico Hps last week. I still haven't decided on which springs to go w/. I was going to go w/ some Solara Tein S-Techs; but I'm scared the 1.7" drop in the front might be too much for the Hps to handle on a reg. I want these struts to last a long time. That being said I may go w/ the TRD/Eibach or H&R (if I can find them) springs for the Camry.

My question is about my strut mounts. I had them replaced @ no cost by my dealer on 11/26/01; about 69,000 miles ago. Do you guys think I should change them when I have my struts and springs put on; or should I be okay w/ the ones I have?

Last question: Are there strut mounts in the rear also, because when the dealer replaced them they only did the front?

you can swop them and probly sell those stock struts off ebay if they are still in good shape. yes there are strut mounts in the rear, and springs really depends on what you wanna do, how low, how hard of a ride you want. but go with ebachi's you can find them all over the place. there the best since they dont sag

Thanks for the advice.

I guess I'll change the rear strut mounts and leave the front alone. Which strut mounts are the best aftermarket or oem?

Strut boots are obviously reccomended to protect the strut, but OEM rears are $$$. Check the condition of the current ones, if it ain't broke (to a certain extent) don't fix it (in the rear at least... front strut boots aren't too expensive). I bought a pair of universal KYB strut boots, and they didn't fit on my Tokicos so buy OEM if you do.

The problem is; I don't have strut boots on now. I planned on getting the universal kyb boots; but I guess that's out. So I will have to buy all four. Do u know a site that has them for a good price?

Thanks.

I have tein s-tech's on my camry; 1.6" drop in the front. My tokico struts have paper work that state the following:

Your tokico warranty will be void if:

**You lower your vehicle too far (most cars can handle 1" to 1 3/4" maximum; some trucks can be lowered over 4" depending upon method).**

1.7" falls in the "OK" category for MOST cars. Call Tokico and see if it applies to your car...my blues are warranted for life against wear-out and manufacturer defect; barring user error w/ install and extreme situations.

I just did the Tein/Tokico swap and it is AWESOME!!!! You will love it, it is almost not low enough. The front wheel gap is like 3 fingers and the rear is like 1 or 2. It rides very smooth and is not harsh at all like I first thought it might. I was worried too but have no fear it is an easy install and makes the camry feel like a whole new car. No bodyroll, the back end is stiffer and it actually feels smoother. Tokicos rock hardcore, worth every penny and the tein springs are the best springs for the 4th gen Camry in my opinion. The Tokicos will have no problem handling the drop either. I would advise cutting 1/2 inch off the bumpstops though front and rear although not really necessary. Good luck.

Are you guys using gen1 solara springs or gen4 camry springs?
The gen1 Solara springs say V6 the gen4 Camry springs say 4cyl. Just wondering? I think I'm gonna cop them tonight.

Thanks for the replies!

I just put my Tokico HP Blues, Eibach Pro springs, and new KYB mounts on the front of my gen4..... excellent, solid ride now. I'm doing the rear struts next weekend. Only dropped about an inch, but it looks like more. Tokico warns that you don't want to "excessively" lower your car with their struts. I think they define excessive as more than 2 inches. I like the Eibachs but have no experience with the other brands. I'm replacing all mounts, struts, and springs. The clunking noise in the right front is now gone, thanks to the new mount.

(Tirerack sells the KYB mounts at around $63 front, $58 rear. The rear mounts have an integrated dust boot, so you should not need to buy the KYB boots/bumper combos. I used the OEM dust boots & bumpers on the front struts... still in good shape at 94k miles.)

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

I'll have mine on this weekend. Great way to start a new year.
I went w/ the tokico/tein(solara v6) setup.

One last thing. How do you get to the rear struts? The trunk, rear deck, or wheel well?

Thanks
