This is wierd. My both my friends decided to take of the work camry off there gen 3.5's the first one we did was on a black 96 LE when we took of the word CAMRY it came off prefectly clean no holes or anything. Now on the 2nd camry its more of a purpleish color 96 LE as well. This time there were tiny little mini holes kinda shaping out the word camry as well. Why is that? Why would toyota do such a thing. These aren't the type of holes you would find behind the " T" emblem their smaller then that. Very minor. But still it doesn't look clean anymore. I was wondering what would be behind my gold camry. Anyone have this as well.
Whats the best way to fix this. We dont wanna bondo it because then we need to paint it. I guess we are just going to put the emblems back on. Whats the best glue to use? Silcone?

bondo glazing putty (spot putty). sand and paint. please paint professionally... a paint shop would probably charge you 75 bucks to paint it. check into it.
You'll just have to paint that middle area, if you know what your doing it'll take you about 3 hours and most of the time is waiting for the paint to dry.
And I always put my emblems back on using 3m double sided tape and cuting off any extra tape sticking out from around the sides. silicone will work technically speaking but goodluck getting it off next time you try this.

yea good point...silicone may not be the best idea if you are planning on taking it off again in the future....

also you are talking about this emblem right? (the one that spells camry across the face)
do you think that the smaller letters in the corner that spell "toyota" will have these holes that you are talking about.....i have gen 3.5 also, and i have been thinkg about taking the small toyota letters off that are in my right top corner of the car....but if there are going to be holes then i def wont be doing it.
anyone know out there about these questions turtle and i have?
anyone? anyone?

I have a Gen 3.5 as well and yes the word "Toyota" on the top left of the trunk has pegs with holes in the trunk. I know this because the T is missing and theres a peg between the T and o. I'd like to "shave" my trunk except for the toyota symbol in the middle of the trunk but since there are pegs I won't. Don't wanna have to sand bondo sand and repaint the trunk.

The word "Toyota" on the top left does NOT have anything holding it in besides glue. You can take it right off and use glue/adhesive remover for any glue left over.
The only thing that has pegs are the word "CAMRY" and the toyota lkogo in the center.

ok lets clear this up... you last two people, tell the first digit of your vin number... its more likely that JAP made or US made camrys will be different in this sense. If people are noticing two different things, then it has to be because of that. this is just like the sealed/non sealed strut question... to this day, i still do not know the way to tell WITHOUT looking which camrys have sealed struts and which have inserts. just like this, i think you just have to look and see for yourself.

Go and get the trunk emblems shaved off, by a shop. I did that to my Gen 3...and man...that is sweet. Now I no longer have that tatle tale v6 emblem....but the dual exhaust is a dead giveaway though...lol
i took my emblems off in the back. . all except the toyota symbol. . i had to fill in the holes and get it repainted. I jsut took it too a body shop . .wasn't too expensive at all.
@ zoni : i've search this topic and yes i know all about the many thread but i'm asking a more detailed question here and even you just admit that you can't really tell. Now that you speak of the Jap and US versions of camrys. that could make a little sense. So far from what i've seen on my friends black 96 no pegs on the word "toyota" nor "Le" nor "CAMRY" and on the purple 96 we saw little mini pegs on the word " CAMRY" and just called it a day. Ok well first off we are having disputes over the word Toyota and CAMRY but what about the LE ? ALl i know is 2 holes hole the " T" elblem in the middle. Yes maybe the VIN's would help i'll ask my friends about it.
How bout this! Everyone who HAS removed ANY emblems, post which ones that you removed had holes, and which didn't. And make SURE you say if you have a US or JAP Camry!
Then do a stickey on it for future reference!
