Headers or struts?

I'll have money to afford one or the other coming up pretty soon.
I recently picked up Colin's whiteline springs, so this may hold bearing to some of you.
I'm considering either the ssautochrome 4-1 design headers or the tokico blue struts.
Under normal circumstances I'd say the struts, since I already have the springs...

...however, it seems ssautochrome is auctioning their headers with no reserve, so some may be able to be picked up in the $100 range, which is about 50% less than their normal price. Considering I plan on doing both exhaust and suspension, I have an obvious dilemma.

Any thoughts?

Well, I'd say get the struts so your suspension would be fairly complete.

Well, which do you want more: ~10 more horsepower and loosing bottom end, or better handling?

i'd normally say struts since you have springs already, but given the fact you might be able to get the headers for %50 off means you should get headers first. struts will always be there waiting for you...

but don't wait too long afterwards to get the struts. alot of people i;'ve talked to say it';s a good idea to channge both springs and struts at the same time

2 things to consider as well...
The springs are just sitting in my basement at the moment, I'm waiting on the struts to install. I also have a whiteline rsb and arospeed tower bar, so my suspension would be completed with the struts.

For the record, I'll need both suspension and exhaust for my final goals, which are an NA build of the 5SFE, which will require a lot of headwork, so I'll need both better suspension to handle the power and increased breathing for the headwork to have advantages.

I'm still undecided...

SSAutoChrome is notoriously known as a bad company. I used to drive a Civic and people talked about SSAC and most of the time i heard bad things, like the welds coming undone and whatnot. Bid with caution.

ah, nice parrot.

mr2oc.com users strongly suggest the exact headers, ssautochrome by name; for the 5SFE.

I think I'll go with the struts for now though. ssautochrome header will come soon enough though.

Headers easier job to put in, supposedly.
Might need welding.
Deal of the year though...low bid and if you win go that route.
If it goes higher then your bid, forget about it. You dont even have to mount them now.

Struts and springs with roll bar....hmmmm full day with one person helping.
Need to go alignment after too.

Good points, the rsb's already installed (did it myself in about an hour), so the bitch part is done (getting it past the exhaust).

The alignment part isn't much of an issue, since I need an alignment right now, but I've been holding off to see if I do get the struts soon...

The headers might be a harder task than expected to install, I'm still unsure... They're made for MR2 5S-FE's, so I'm not positive that the downpipe will be the proper length... I'll have to check into if there's a difference in DP's, even so, that can easily be modded by a quality exhaust shop without too big of a price tag.

A couple other considerations were the MSD 6AL and an S-AFC II or finding an (obviously used) HKS S-AFR. My reservations about the latter options are that I don't feel my car's up to power to the point where I could seriously take advantage of any of them.

Either way, ironically, my intent with the car was to make power before I try to work on handling (since I didn't have too many complaints about the handling, although I must say, the improvements are significant and quite nice)...

I think I'll go with your suggestion though, I'll put the bid on the headers, and if I win them in my price range, I'll take the rest of the cash and put it straight toward getting either my catback completed or at least getting the muffler and a res.

Good deal! you'll feel some performance difference w/ headers. but definitely get the struts later on.

As for the SAFC2 or the HKS S-AFR, i was worried too that i wouldn't see much gains w/ my simple bolt ons. but what alot of people told me, i will definitely feel performance gains with the SAFC2...and if not that, the power will come at a lower RPM w/ it right now, my car is rather sluggish off the line till about 2500 rpm - 3000rpm...then it all kicks in. it i could have that power in lower rpm, that'll be sweet
