maxium rim width?

Whats the maximum wheel width that can fit on a 93 camry...8.5? I want to put these 18" Lexani Krystal rims on my camry and they look like 18x8.5 with 225/40 tires on them. The stock rims only got like half an inch between the back of the wheel and the shocks. Would I need spacers for the 18x8.5 rims?

if they are 225/40 they'll probably fit, im running 225/50 with no problems, only thing is the rear wheel well scrapes my rear tires sometimes, but that can be fixed by a fender roll

I wouldn't go any wider than 8" That's when they will start to scrape.

Speaking of which... Eric! Do the 17x8's rub? And where are my damn pics????!

Well I'm worried that the tires will rub against the shocks. I got the Tokico gas shocks and those blue things are thick and doesnt leave too much space between the shocks and the back of the wheels. So will I most likely need to use 1/2" spacers? I don't think the wheels will stick out with the 1/2" spacer...........I hope not

I am running 18X8 on my gen 4.5 with 245/40/ZR 18s. The extent of my rubbing is **only** on the inside lip of the fender well (hardcore until I rolled them). I recently replaced my tires and shocks and did notice a *brushing* of the dirt off my rear strut where the tire rotated. I suspect it rubbed during HARD cornering...but no paint had been removed from the shock and no damage was done to my tire (relatively smooth surface). Normal street you should be OK...autoX you might go with a 7.5. Spacers will only *partly* fix the problem. Here is why...until i rolled my rear fenders I had serious scrubbing issues. If you push the tires outward you run the risk of the tire slamming against the actual fender. My tires would get chewed on the sidewall.

I am not a tire expert but i am fairly confident 18x8.5 will rub on the strut without spacers...with spacers you wont rub on the inside but you may on the outside (top of tire near outside edge)...plus your car will look BOWLEGGED from the back. This IMHO looks 'rigged.'

I don't know how i missed this, but today I looked on the inside of the rims and they are stamped 18x8 not 18x8.5 like i thought. So they are lexani 18x8 with 225/40 tires. I'm still thinking I will need the smallest spacer so they tires wont rub against the shocks.

so if the 225/40/18 on 18x8 fit the gen 4.5, then 225/45/18 on 18x7.5 will fit fine right?

Not too sure...I went with what the place I bought 'em from said. Is the place you are buying them from not helping?? Go to tirerack.com...they have a plus size tire help center...it will recommend a tire for your size application. Just find any wheel on there that is the size you are looking at (offsets MUST be considered) and you should have a *ROUGH* idea what tire you will need.
