3VZ-FE V6 Dyno

Hi guys, though I don't own a Camry per se, I just though I would share this with everyone since my engine came from a Camry. I did the conversion about a year ago and since then has slowly work on the engine to improve it. Here's the current dyno sheet.

It's about 50hp short of my current goal with the 3VZ-FE. And there's a quite noticeable drop in power after 6300rpm. We (myself and my tuner) felt that the engine runs out of breath at that point. Maybe the standard intake manifold is somewhat restictive at this point.

Here are the list of work done to the engine so far:

Ported and polished head.
Skimmed head to raise compression (about 11:1).
Balanced crank, crank pulley and flywheel.
88.5mm oversized pistons (ceramic coated, to replace the original 87.5mm pistons with cracked ringland).
Crow cam regrind, 264 degrees duration, standard lift, asymmetrical profile.
Custom cam pulley.
Dellorto 80mm throttle body.
Standard ignition setup with NGK cables.
Custom exhaust manifold.

Good work man, your mr2 look badass, if i where you i'd swap the 1mz-fe from a 97+ to do the same thing but you could put the supercharger, since he replace the standard manifold, maybe the breath problem will not be there anymore ? anyways i dont know i just own a camry and not a mr2

and not be fast enough after the cost of another engine swap.. thats some serious hp for a 3vz there you got... by crow cam regrind.. could you explain that further? got the stock cams reprofiled? for what rpm range?

love the torque...26kgm at the wheels is insane

Hi mate, nice car. I have a friend who's putting a 3VZ-FE engine into a mk1. Are you still running a standard fuel pump. I'm thinking of putting a supra fuel pump in mine. I have a MZ-FE in my mk2

The reason it drops off after 6,300RPM is because hp peak is at 5,500RPM, and your power only declines from there

However props on the work. 226hp at the wheels isn't bad at all for an N/A 3vz. Great job on it

No, it would still have the same problem, for the same reason I listed above. You loose power after you hit your peak.

Besides, the 3vz stomps the 1mz in torque anyday of the week

because the stock redline is around 6300-6500rpms

good work with the 3vz. there is still room for improvement. in your case i would suggest just nitrous, just because you are only looking for a little more power. otherwise i would suggest a turbo kit. if you can do the work to build the motor, you should be able to put a turbo kit together. then again, that'd put you WAY over your 50 more hp goal.

either way you go, you are screwing yourself with the higher compression. its high enough already at 10.5, but even more at 11. that'd be dangerous to use nitrous or a turbo, if you dont control it correctly. now if you control it correctly, you should be good. always making sure you have enough fuel is the key. DEFINITELY upgrade the fuel pump and injectors. walbro 255L pumps are a pretty standard replacement. i'd love to see you do a low boost turbo to boost you up around 100hp more. the key with anything is fuel management though. good luck!

Look at the dyno chart, hp shits out at 226hp at 6300 rpm, at nowhere is declining before then. Roll your eyes at yourself.

Sweet! Dyno run

I was typing out a list of thoughts, then I read Zoni's response, and he covered 'most' of it. Valves and cam is the only other thing I would recommend having a second look at. Obviously you know what you are doing in building a good N/A car and with what you have going forced induction would be like starting over. If it were my car I wouldn't change a thing.

That's at nearly 32C as well, that's 82F for you folks south of the border.

Good Job.

That isn't in HP, fools... it's PS, whater the heck that is.

That would be worse than Honda #'s if it were HP & Ft lbs... 226hp/26 ft lb Silly Hondas.
