egr valve replacement write up

Does anyone know of a write up on how to replace an EGR valve on a 96 toyota camry lx?

I looked at it and it looks like it has a couple bolts holding the part to the engine block, however underneath the valve in a relatively difficult place to reach it looks like it is screwed into some sort of pipe with a threaded bolt on it...it almost looks similar to the way a fuel line is screwed into the fuel filter. I am going to have a hard time getting to that part first of all and second of all it seems to be screwed on realy tight so I dont want to break or strip anything in the process.

Is an EGR valve a "plug n play" part to where I can just swap the old one out with a new one and reconnect everything and it should be good to go??

Thanks for the help...EGR valve is one part I have never replaced before.

Like you say the pipe part is hard to remove. If you gonna get a EGR, get it with the pipe and fitting. Its easier to remove EGR by losening the nut on the cylinder head. You'll need to remove intake and other thing to put a big wrench on it. You can't really remove the nut on the EGR unless you find a way to hold it after you take it out.

1. Label any hoses that you need to remove, so you know where they go.

2. Unbolt the EGR from the back of the intake manifold. IIRC its 2 10mm nuts.

3. Use a big adjustable wrench and unbolt the pipe from the back of the cylinder head.

4. Remove the EGR valve from the car.

5. Unbolt the other end of the pipe from the EGR valve.

Replace the gasket for the EGR valve.
