I've seen tons of pics & have decided I must have reverse glow gauges on my Gen 4. Now, when picking aftermarket gauges does the "get what you pay for" rule apply? I've seen some for ~ $30, and some for twice that. Are the more expensive gauges worth it? TIA for the advice...
The cheaper ones apper to be being sold by people who are willing to make next to nothing on them. You can save a buck or two, but generally customer service isnt that best.
quick question... can someone just confirm for me that 194's are the bulbs behind the dash? I swore it was but read a thread a bit ago that makes me second guess that.
Just thinking about taking the little 'condoms' off of mine and swapping the bulbs.
i dont think they are, they look like 194 bulbs but they have this plastic thing around them. im playing with one right now, if i figure out how to take the bulb out, then ill tell you what kind it is
i've got mine for the 92 camry for only 24$ shipped of of ebay....installed in like an hr.....loved the brightness and colors. Also i've wired it so its on when the car is on :-)
I've done some poking around & think I might get some reverse glow gauges from procarparts.com - the kind w/out the colored center - only the numbers & hashes illuminate ($32 USD w/out shipping). I considered glow gauges where the whole gauge face glows in six different colors, but think that might be a bit much. As well I also think I'm gonna get some Silverstars for the headlamps.
At first I didn't think I'd mod my Camry at all, but don't know that I can resist making a few tweaks. Can't blow much of the family budget but I can at least make some asthetic changes for fun.
Now I just gotta decide if I'm gonna do the gauge install myself or pay a pro...
if you have a 92-96 camry, you can look at Rayray's instructions http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292103119 , as for me, instead of getting the power from the dash wires, i've just put the power from the invertor into the power seats fuse (left hand side behind the little tray) and then a negative to a near by bolt. this took about an hr of work, and its my first time doing anything like this no pros needed!
its really up to you in what you want there are just hardely any for gen2 so i just went for these.
The only Gen2 models that do not have their own kit are:
V6 Automatic (with no tach)
I4 Manual (with tach)
In this scenario, you would have to buy two of the available kits to piece together what you need for your car. The best kits I've used with no problems are the ones sold by Procarparts. They also sell on Ebay.
well i got it off some ebay seller(Procarparts sorta rings the bell) and it was for the 88-91 camry's. i have tach as u can see and everything works perfectly. as far as i care im happy with it.
