Unhappy Help!!! Engine Light!

It's not my first time to post this.
It came out once a month ago but i ignored it and it disappeared. The reaseon i thought it was because my father didn't tighten the gas cap.
But the light came out again and it's still on when i'm driving. i really don't know what the reason is. i have searched the fourm for all these kinds of threads, there are many solutions like one "took batteray post out for few hours and put it back the engine check light is off now." does it really work? People said Autozone can check the code i don't think i can fix it by knowing the code. Also people said there are some sensors need replacement. Any other solutions that i can DIY. i also read the manual and the cap is very tight. I have asked toyota dealer and they said they charge for $70 for just checking. Is the thing really serious i will take it to toyota dealer or i hope you guys can help me fix it myself.

PS: my car is 99 Camry V6 with 92662 miles.

If you have a haynes manual or any other mechanics manual for your car it will tell you what ports in your diagnostic port to jump to get a reading. you then count how many times your light flashes and that gives you the trouble code. Look that up in the book and you'll know what the problem is.

^ That won't work on his car. His car is OBD-II.

You need a scanner to retrieve the codes.

OBD = on board diagnostics

What is OBD-II?

On-Board Diagnostic systems are in most cars and light trucks on the road today. During the '70s and early 1980's manufacturers started using electronic means to control engine functions and diagnose engine problems. This was primarily to meet EPA emission standards. Through the years on-board diagnostic systems have become more sophisticated. OBD-II, a new standard introduced in the mid-'90s, provides almost complete engine control and also monitors parts of the chassis, body and accessory devices, as well as the diagnostic control network of the car.

Theres a plug under the drivers side dash by the steering column. A scanner plugs into this plug.

How do we measure OBD-II output?

Pre-OBD-II cars had connectors in various positions under the dashboard and under the hood. All OBD-II cars have a connector located in the passenger compartment easily accessible from the driver's seat. Check under the dash or behind or near the ashtray. A cable is plugged into the OBD-II J1962 connector and connected to AutoTap or another scan tool. AutoTap is available in PC/laptop or a Palm PDA versions. Other scantools on the market range from simple hand-held meters that display trouble codes, up to a large console computer-based unit costing thousands of dollars.

Call your local parts stores such as Autozone and see if they'll read your codes. They'll tell you what the codes are or what the problem area is and try to sell you a part.

Check back here and post the codes and we'll try to help you decide if you can fix it or take it to the dealer for repair.

Post the codes here and I'm sure we can help you. In my experience, ODBII is very specific in what to fix.

I fixed the EGR on my fathers Yukon with OBDII. I had it scanned, came home and Googled the code and it specifically said the EGR had failed. Replaced the EGR and the code hasn't come back on for 6 months.

The OBDI wasn't very specific but if you were to compare the complexity and number of different codes that OBDI has from OBDII, you'll see how much better II really is in diagnosing problems.

po125 = insufficient 02 temp sens code in closed loop
I am not sure about the 130, i'd say get your o2 sensors replaced and work back from there if any more codes exist!

Darn Phi, you beat me...i didn't know all that existed...

Do it yourself. Bank 1 P0130 Heated Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1). If it's like my Camry, it's right there on the exhaust manifold. I don't know if bank 1 is the one closer to the radiator or the one closer to the firewall, though. If you take it to the Toyota dealer, it's ~$90 an hour for labor. Changing an O2 sensor is a 20 minute job.
