rear shocks and springs

I just upgrade my 96 camry with 17in konig prophet wrap with 215/50/R17 tires. since the wheels are wider then the stocks, its also have a biger diameter (about .5 in taller) then the stock wheel.. this give me a problem...

I notice that in gen3 camry; the back spring lies on top of the tires. Since i just upgrade my wheels..there is a tiny gaps between the spring (about .5 in) which mean the tire barely touch the springs...in that case i wont be able to put people in the back seats, since it will affect the shock and the tire rubbing together.

Do i need to uprade my stock shock and spring too...or what should i do to avoid my spring from rubbing the tire? i have use 215/45/r17 tires before, but it was shorter then the stock tires thus giving me inaccurate speed rating

any suggestion? help

Well i have 225/45/17 tires on my camry, and its seems like i have plenty of space all around. But mine is the 92 model, but there shouldnt be too much of a difference from the 96... Oh you got a pic of the spring and tires?...if you do ill take a look at mine to see the clearance...

i have 17"s w/ 225/45/r17 and it's ok(lowered about 2 inches as well)....
it didn't affect my speed either...
just go w/ the smaller tires, or deal with it rubbing..
and just go get the speedometer adjusted if it's giving u a prob

im no expert, but that's what i think

How do you recalibrate a speedo?
Nice try but no easy task.
I think you should be fine because the tire and spring move in relation to each other.
Your post does not say it has touched. Try it out.
Another way would be to add thin spacers to move your tire slightly furthur away but then you deal with fenders. Do you know your offset?
