What kinda gas do you put in your car? I drive 120 miles roundtrip each day for work so I can't afford my preference (93 oct.) full-time. I try to run 89 on each fill-up, and treat my Cam to 93 oct. two or three times each month minimum. Might be my imagination, but it seems my Gen 4 and previous Gen 2.5 both run better on 93.

87 Octane on a Camry is all that's needed. Higher octane doesn't help at all. In fact, whenever I've used higher octane, I've had shittier gas mileage (by about 2-3mpg usually). Unless you specifically tune your car to advance timing to take advantage of higher octane fuel, you'll actually do more harm than good. Higher octane fuel is less combustible. Force induced engines and high compression engines require high octane fuel so that they don't pre-detonate before the spark fires. This isn't the case in a Camry. In fact, because the fuel is more resistant to burning, higher octane fuel will not be able to completely burn when the Camry engine fires its spark. The result is unburnt fuel that over time, leaves excessive carbon buildup in your engine.

87 Chevron... I'd run cheap 87 if I wern't running so much timing advance.
Worried about the motor? Fuck octane and just buy some fuel treatment... Can of Seafoam costs $4-$5.

I switched to 89 with my new JDM motor. in japan, their lowest fuel is about midgrade, and the JDM motor has higher compression. it definatly runs smoother with the 89, but i guess it ran fine with 87 too.

Doesn't Sunoco sell gas that's lower than 87? I seem to remember that those odd five-octane pumps of theirs offer an 86 or even 85 octane as their "economy" gas. (Maybe I'm just old.)
