blue LED wiring question?

hello, im doing a custom stereo install with 2 10's amd my amp in the middle. the amp's board will be exposed under plexiglass with a 2 blue led's. whats the easiest way to power these. Could I possiblly tap into the parking lights? The led's were designed to hold the lisence plate on and they recommended it. That would be the closest location. What could I do.

If you're feeling brave, you could tap into the amp itself, poke around with a voltmeter until you find the desired voltage....don't know if I would really recommend that though.

The only thing about tapping into the parking lights is that the LED's would only come on if your parking lights are on...if that's alright, then go ahead. If not, I would run a seperate wire straight from the battery to the LED's in the back, and stick a switch in the middle of it so you can turn them on and off when you want to. In fact, I plan on doing this to my car (not to light up an amp, but still for LED's), it seems like it would work well.

ill just run a control box from the fuse box(clock fuse) to the back if the trunk then run the led's off that box. The fuse is a 30 amp. which should be plenty for the two led's.

You could tap into the trunk light circuit ( be careful on routing of wires)

Sounds like the LEDs are have the proper resistors to allow them to run on 12 volts. (make sure)

You should add a SMALL inline fuse at whatever point you tap into power.

If the LED's were designed to run off the 12v circuit already, which it sounds like they were, then they won't need a resistor, but it's best to double-check that first, because if they weren't designed for a 12v circuit, then they'll burn out instantly....not sure how you could check it though, other than just connecting one and seeing what happens...

That trunk light idea sounds great, because you would only need the LED's on when the trunk is open...seems like it would work the best.

12V Leds simply have a resistor (typically btw 220ohm and 820ohm) already installed. Therefore, simply connect to any 12V source and your ready to go.

I have done similar installs with neon instead of LEDs butthere is no differance, you can tap off the remote line to the amp for a switched power 12vdc and run a switch to where ever to control it. you can also use the good clean ground right there as well. Good luck and post up some pics
