Door handle SNAPPED this morning

It got really cold last nite in Richmond Va after raining and a short thunder snow shower. This morning, my doors were frozen shut. I thought I could pull the drivers door open anyway. I didn't!! I broke the handle, damm it! I just ordered one from toyota and I would like to know how difficult it is to install the new one. I have a 96 LE. The guy at toyota said it wasn,t that hard to do if you have small hands, I don't. he also said that he had gotten 8 calls today to order door handles on 96 camrys... is this a defect???.......I guess I shouldn't have pulled so hard

Im scared of that happening on my car, specially with the rimless windows, I dont even know if that would make it worse, but it makes me paranoid

Been there done that. Its an easy repair. Just take your time and watch out for sharp edges in the door.

Yea I damn near broke mine this morning, but I was dumb enough to lock my doors the night before so I had a hell of a time getting the door unlocked... Unlocked em at the passenger door, then almost broke the driver door handle getting in. Tonight I left it unlocked (out here in the sticks you can get away with it routinely), not takin any chances

Steve

PS imo gen2's had the best door handles- those shits were impossible to break!

I agree. The inside and outside door handles on gen 2's are metal.

Not plastic like the gen 3's. I broke the passenger side interior door handle on my friends gen 3. Damn thing just broke off when I went to go open the door.

Keep a sprayer bottle of deicer in teh trunk, Its amazing how the trunk never freezes...(thats what i did in the morning in wisconsin) spay the deicer and then try and open doors).
Fresco Bob: my celica had frameless windows (just like solara)..i was always afraid i'd break the glass in the mornings, just a few squirts and my mind was eased!

my brother and I have both broken the outside door handles on our gen 3's....it's an easy fix and door handles are abundant on ebay. i also broke my interior door handle too. that was also ebay replaced and even easier to fix myself. Trust me guys, it's tons easier and cheaper to get an ebay handle and do it yourself then to pay the dealer or some shop to do it.
