I have a toyota camry 98 1mz 6cyl but its need to be lower, really need to be lower. so i went check a few places for pricing and result is exsensive like bout 3-4 hundred in labor and thats not even including the lowing springs yet. I was wondering is it hard to do it my self and wat kind of springs can i get that doesnt cost to much cuz i just wanna lower it bout 2inches if not more. Im just trying to get good deals so that way i get the rest of my project done quicker on dis camry i have.
and can any one explain to me how to lower a camry or if there is a site to refer me to how to lower a camry 6cyl 1mz 98 thanx much appericated.
I just want to lower my car with lowering spring but not change my shocks is that bad and do i need a camber kit?

well the best thing you could do is search on here. 3-4 hundred? that should include the anal lube, cause thats the huggest rip off ever. It is relativly easy to do yourself, if youve got all the tools.
Tein springs give you a 1.7 inch drop, and thats the lowest drop that I know of without going the coilover route
I just did the same thing. I bought Tein S-tech springs for $160 ebay and then ordered Tokico struts for $395 even from a local shop. Other costs, $2.38 for a can of flat black spray paint to make the blue Tokicos look stock, $4.56 for a 22mm 1/2 inch drive socket, $7.45 case of cokes for all my friends helping with the install. We used a spring compressor from autozone, they loan tools with a deposit, and a socket set, ratchets extensions, a jack, and a 1/2 inch breaker bar. Install took like 6 hours going by the haynes repair manual. Very easy install if you have like three guys helping you. The drop looks good and the ride is amazing. There is no body roll like before and cornering is smooth. The back end kicks out with no ebrake around turns because the tein springs actually correct for understeer. So for under $600 this is an amazing improvement in my opinion.
do i really need a spring compresser is there steps on how to lower a car? i just wanna change the stock springs into after market lowering spring hopfully i can get 2inch drop if not more. is it bad not to change the shocks when lowering the car i wanted to save money on the shocks that is why im just buying the lowering spring off of ebay for under 90 buck not including shipping and handling yet.
* I was told to put on the 4cyl lowering spring for my 6cyl i would get more better result but i got a 6cyl and does it matter 6cyl or 4cyl wouldn't any lowwering springs work i always thought that any lowering springs would do, as long as they are made for your car and year

Yes, you have to get a spring compresser. Its cheap. You just depost it X amount of money and when you return it, You get it back. Maybe minus like 10 bucks for an each day rental charge. I think my friend even got it all back.
I believe if you use eibachs (The best and most expensive spring) you don't need to change your oem struts right away. But the thing is, You don't HAVE to change them but its always a good idea. The OEM shocks and struts could blow on you any time. Some people have gone like 1 year with out anything happening and some people have gone a few months.
Also, 4 cyl springs will fit too but the thing is. You won't get as much of a drop.
I don't remember which spring but i belive:
4 Cyl = 1.4" drop
6 Cyl = 1.6"
you WILL need spring clamps to make getting the struts back together easy and also so the spring dont come flying off when you take apart the strut top. theyre around $15. but hire a rattlegun and air compressor. you DO NOT want to do this by hand unless you have 20 hours to spare take me and oneother person around 30 minutes for front and 20 minutes for rear, each corner.
i4 springs make a v6 front lower and the i4 is lighter...dont go the opposite way if you want to go low... also you might want to cut the lower coil off the sprig b4 putting them on for that extra bit of lowness hahaha

Cutting your springs is very controversial.
I'd say 75% of people think its really dumb and un-safe.
But I have heard that if you do it right, you won't have any problems.
If he is still on the boards, Talk to BlueMeanie. He knows about cutting springs and what not.
if ya gonna cut ya springs, always make sure the top and bottom still line up with ya struts. a more expensive way but safer is to get them recompressed.
i had less then 1/2 the spring remaining in my 97 Lancer (2cm to the bumpstops), had to drill the lower strut and wire tie the spring down so it didnt fall out over long bumps and driveways. car was always driven hard. never had problems.

ditto- i cut 1 coil off the stock springs for the front for a while... drove hard on it and had no problems.
if you can though, you should find the actual lowering spring application for your car... its going to ride a lot better, and you have no chance of the spring falling out.
toyocamboi that is a huge rip off. I paid $200 to get my springs n struts installed. You have to look around for a cheaper place or do it your self, but cutting you stock spirngs
You need a spring compressor there is no way around it unless you undo the top nut and let the assembly explode in your face and probably maim or kill you. You need to replace struts or it will bounce everywhere and the ride will be worse than before. Aftermarket struts are made to handle the extra strain of lowering springs and they will vastly improve handling as well which is much more noticable than the drop. Even with the tein springs you will not need to do a camber kit the stock bolts have enough adjustment built in. Someone might notice the drop and they might not but they will definitely notice how well your car handles after doing struts and springs.
