Headers on the 3rd gen

Hey guys and gals, I just looked up the rippmods header for the 5sfe and compared it to the bosal brospeed header, both look identical, so for the concern of emissions, wouldn't both these headers pass CA smog? Rippmods claim their header can pass SMOG and I don't see anything different between the two. Someone please share some enlightment on this.

Calvin

i have the RIPP mod headers and they've passed smog in NJ, which is pretty tough on all that crap too, not as tough as CA from what i hear though... basically, what i was told was that the bosal header and the RIPP header are the same thing, except the RIPP header comes with a Saab turbo cat that has a spot for the second O2 sensor or some crap like that. i got the RIPP header back exhaust system though, so, i'm not entirely sure what comes with what if you were to buy them seperately. good system overall though, i've been very pleased.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll have a chance at passing then, but I think it might be different here because I have a CA Spec Camry. Meaning I have two cats, one on the stock manifold and one on the downpipe. I had to remove the manifold to install the headers. Did you have two cats as well? Thanks for anymore advice.

yeah, my cam had two cats. one on the manifold and one on the downpipe, just like yours. i think that as long as you have two O2 sensors, one before the cat and one after, the computer will read good on your emissions, provided your cat is good.

Okay thanks Gaak, I already talked to Rippmods they told me that the headers would be CARB Compliant but not CARB legal. I'm guessing that would mean not street legal but able to pass emissions?

probably meaning they pass but aren't certified with a carb #.

Alright, that's okay with me. As long as they pass emissions, I'm happy. All I need now is to make two holes for my intake sensors.
