Brittle plastics

Hey guys, I was working on my friends '92 again trying to fix the door handle linkage. I was annoyed as hell when anything everything plastic kept snapping even if I looked at it wrong.

Was there a problem with Toyota plastics around '92? ...because this is rediculous! The stuff is as brittle as ice!

It was in the mid 40s when I was working on it; probably 10d warmer in the garage. By contrast, I own an '89 Montero (Montero & Raider are the same vehicle ) and have been working on the gauge pod recently in below freezing weather with no problems. My dad's '00 Camary also doesn't seem to have the same brittle plastic in it. Thought it might have been a model year thing where Toyota was using LQ plastics or something. Or maybe it's just age?

Maybe you are working with some cheap replacement parts. I mean someone may have replaced it with a made in Knockoffland replacement part. They are out there, hint hint - a certain web site starting with e.

Cool

It's just old plastic. The heat cycles will kill all of it eventually. No big deal. Depending on the plastic you can epoxy it back together, fiberglass epoxy it back together(or carbon fiber/kevlar, whatever you want) or low temp melt it back together.
