junk yard engine?

i am going to buy a used engine and transmission from a junkyard and was wandering what i should look for in an engine to get a good one. I was offered $1000 for a set with 92,000 k miles on a 93 camry and did not know if it was a good buy. Can someone please help me out.

Depends on mileage of vehicle Id say that with 92 k miles you would be looking at replacing o2 sensors and FPR real quick plus who knowd if they replaced the timing betlt at 60k miles . I paid 750 for transmission and was told i was lucky a engine alone would run ya about 100 - 1500 so you can just imagine. Good luck!!

Ive got a 94 LE with 135,000 miles. Runs great (recently fast passed Illinois emission test), no trans problems, but has accident damage. If you can arrange the shipping or towing you can have the whole car for $700.

the one test that will tell you if the engine is good is to check the compression
the difference between the cylinders should not be bigger than 15 psi

$1K for 92K miles!?!?!? That seems like alot to me. I bought a '01 1mz with 22K mile engine that came with wiring harness for around $1200. Double check to make sure that you're not getting ripped off.

well, if it comes with the transmission, that's not that bad of a deal. Cuz what I paid for was just the engine itself. Tranny usually will go for 500-1000 bucks, depending on mileage used on the tranny. Not bad for that price then
