Well I had the rattling coming from my left front side going over small bumps. Especially when the weather got colder. So I brought it into the shop to have the strut mount replaced. Well the sound is much better, but now I hear a small rattle once in a while. Anyone have any idea what it is? It sounds like the strut mount noise, but now it is a lot more quiet, but still quite annoying. Could they have possibly put them in wrong?
No engine vibration. I think it's related to the strut mounts. It only makes the noise when I go over bumps and it's a rattle.
Same thing happened to me when I got the struts done at Sears....(that was a mistake)....They installed the strutmounts wrong and it made the noise, but to a lesser degree. Sh!theads.....

After I did my struts & strut mounts change over, there was still a noise coming from up front. It seemed to come from a different place up front. Found out that the sway bar end links were not tightened all of the way. With air tools, was able to clamp down on the sway bar end links, no noise now. Also check the three top strut mount nuts, just letting the suspension back down and driving around allowed the suspension to settle, and after a quick re-check with the torque wrench I was all set.
It's a 98 Camry LE 4 cyl. with 100,000 miles on it. I will check the top plastic piece. Because I supplied the parts Pepboys said that they won't warranty the work. I will also check the strut mount nuts.
My 97 camry noise was simply sway bar bushings in the front. Local canadian tire sold me a rear strut mount which I did'nt need. Another Mechanic found rear sway bar clamps too loose. Really hard to keep the suspension noise down when Temperature outside drops to -20C or worse
Regarding the sway bar link... The torque on that 14mm nut is only 29 ft/lbs. You shouldn't need an air tool to tighten that. Besides, to remove it you need a 5mm hex, which can easily strip if the nut is too tight. (If that happens, you need to buy a new sway bar link since those small ball joints on each end are sealed... it's one complete unit.)
Hopefully they aligned the flats of the strut rod with the flats in the mount.

I had a clunking noise from the front suspension when i went over bumps/pot holes - when i replaced the struts and springs recently, i found that the bolt securing the front stabilizer bar to the right sway bar link had fallen off.
also had some clunking from the rear suspension - thought it was the new TRD RSB installed 3 months ago. but during the strut/spring replacement, i discovered that the left upper spring bumper had deteriorated and only half of the bumper was left.
love the new ride - my camry corners with significantly less body roll, and the steering is a lot more precise with more road feel.
