Engine problem!!!

Does anyone know the idling speed for a 96 camry v6. Reason asking when you start it, the idle is at 2000 rpms and then will go down once its warmed up. Now the engine is making a loud noise. Like a bearing is gone any suggestions.

that doesnt sound too good, the idle speed is computer controlled and what you said sounds about right, get it to your mechanic before the noise goes boom

do you if a sensor controls it or do you have to change it via the computer to change the speed.

the idle speed is a program in the computer, why do you want to change it?

Can you describe the noise and where on the engine its coming from?

Bad or spun bearing will make a clunking sound from the lower part of the engine.

The idle speed depends on how cold the engine is. Theres sensors on the engine that the ECU uses to determine the idle speed.

2,000 rpms is fine, especially when the engine is cold.

in other words there is an rpm map in the ecu and it uses the sensor inputs to determine what block on the map to use, this is called idle stradegy

Same here, 1MZ-FE idles at about 2,000 RPM until it warms up a bit. Strangely enough I started a 2002 Accord (cold) and it idled at only 1,200 RPM or so. I dunno, Hondas are high revving engines in general so I thought that was odd.

hmm so it couldn't have caused something to go bad. I just have to look internally.

Relax a bit, it's probably your powerstering pump that scream when it is cold outside, im in quebec canada here and my 95 v6 do exactly the same she run 2000 rpm than when she is hot she will go at 800 but when i start it it will make a little sound like you explain turn your sterring parked you will see, its just the power stering pump that is too cold, at least that was for me and when she is warm no sound
