On my way into work this morning, nice relaxing drive, enjoying some full-volume tunes - life's good. I'm on a four-lane highway tooling along at ~70mph, and come to my exit, which the Gen4 handles quite nicely. But lo & behold, at the bottom of the ramp, on the entrance to the secondary/feeder highway, some dumbfvck is stopped dead right before the acceleration/entry lane. I mean stopped dead. No traffic in the right lane or anything to prevent her from merging. Just. Stopped. Dead. I hit the brakes harder than I have in this car yet, and I could feel the ABS kick in & stop me in a heartbeat. I'm damn impressed, and more than a bit relieved. Of course this spurs the mental midget ahead of me to get the hell going! Then I kick the 5sFE engine, catchup to the b1tch, and give her a nice long Thank god two of the Gen4's strong points are getup & go, and immediate stoppage. If this had been my Gen2.5, or my GFs Buick, I'd a shoved some sheetmetal right up that b1tch's tailpipe none too gently. Had the car less than a month and appreciate it as my finest ride yet. Viva La Camry!!!

Great invention ! I had an idiot blast across a two lane snow covered highway in front of me two days ago. ABS did the trick -- EVERYONE should practice on slippery conditions to avoid the conditioned response of feathering the brakes to prevent sliding.
I love my ABS. I'll never own another DD without it. It's great racing too. You can drive deeper before you smack the brakes. After this car, you realize all the people that complain about ABS, and their ability to out-brake it with normal brakes.
^That's just a stupid arguement for 13 year olds that don't drive to have.

Just remember ABS on full application works only more or less in a straight line. Just step on it and try to steer. I have had ABS before and am still out to lunch on it. I did not like it kicking in when I am in a delicate situation. I know (from experience) its a scary experience on a downhill ice.
If you do have ABS, make sure you use the same kind of tires on all four.
wait wait.... abs increases stopping distance.. the use is so you dont lock up the front wheels so you can still get around a sticky situation...ive never had the pleasure of stomping on abs, but i can handle myself good if the brake pads arent running too hot.. when they fade from heat its uhhh crap... :P

Isn't that supposed to be the other way around? Decreased distance by constantly allowing the static coefficient of friction to come in contact with the ground and PREVENT skidding via locked brakes?

also, some people have been saying that ABS increases stopping distance. while this may be true in certain situations i think the point of ABS is to allow you some steering ability in a hard braking situation. just try locking up ur wheels and turning... nothing will happen except skidding in a straight line. however, with ABS your wheels would still be rolling which allows you to steer the car and avoid the accident. (or tree or kid running across the street etc.)
I hate my ABS brakes in my Altima. I feel they prevent me from stopping sooner. There have a been a few instances where they've saved me and then a few others that scared me half to death by merely missing a collision. My Camry doesnt have ABS and I've been in a few situations with it where I wished it did have ABS. So Im kinda biased on ABS brakes and I think I would prefer non-abs brakes. But my Camry needs ABS imo because the brake pedal goes too low and requires hard smashes of the foot at times...

95camguy ^^ There are some user that have a staggered setup with wider wheels on rear, some are even talking about doing it up front. Let's not forget those that run different sizes on all four because it was cheapest. I have seen quite a few cars with different brands front to rear. All these are bad for ABS because the sensors are reading different speeds.

Correct. It's the first damn thing you learn in Physics 101 and some still don't get it.
